Editorial Reviews:

The Deitels' groundbreaking How to Program series offers unparalleled breadth and depth of programming concepts for programmers of all levels. The books in this series feature hundreds of complete, working programs with thousands of lines of code. KEY TOPICS: Focuses on native C++ and presents examples of .NET managed code programming with C++/CLI, where appropriate. Takes an easy-to-follow, carefully developed early classes and objects approach provides comprehensive coverage of object-oriented programming. Teaches the fundamentals of software engineering and object-oriented design with the UML 2.0 using an optional automated teller machine (ATM) case study, with additional integrated case studies throughout the text. For anyone interested in learning how to program Visual C++.

Summary: Perfectly Mislead Title
Comment: It talks C++ using visual C++. NO WINDOW PROGRAMING AT ALL ( in indeed, the title didn't say WINDOW at all, clever ? ).

Summary: No MFC?
Comment: MFC is old school. If it covers .NET, then it is a Visual C++ book.

I would give any Dietel & Dietel book 5 stars. They are the absolute best books available for learning the programming languages they teach, with their thorough coverage of specific topics and their chapter summaries, exams, and practice problems.

Summary: Why that title?
Comment: This is not a Visual C++ book. It is the first time I'm disapointed about a book from Deitel& Deitel. I was looking for a Visual C++ book, and there is not even a chapter about MFC. I bought many years ago "C++ How to Program" from Deitel & Deitel, and this new book is just a new Edition of the "C++ How To Program"

I highly recommend "Java How To Program" and "C++ How to Program", but if you are looking for something in Visual C++, don't buy "Visual C++ 2008 How to Program" or you will end up returning it.
