This is the first book to tell the complete tale of the modern drumset masters. A century of drumming is covered: from the founding fathers of jazz, to today's athletic, mind-altering rhythm wizards. Twenty "drum gods" - Buddy Rich, John Bonham, Keith Moon, Elvin Jones, Max Roach and others are featured.

Customer Rating: Summary: some awesome photos... Comment: This book, by the makers of 'Modern Drummer' magazine, has some very cool quotes and pictures (full-color photos throughout.) Even better are the mini articles about the progression of drumming. It starts off with the biggies - Gene Krupa, Billy Cobham, Steve Gadd, Buddy Rich, and others. A recurring theme is that the drummer keeps it all together. See how this is the case, from jazz to grunge to punk rock to '90s Neo-Bop. It's just a fun book to look through - and it'll give you ideas for new bands to listen to - and complex rhythms to watch for.
