Wish You Were Here is a song cycle dedicated to Pink Floyd's original frontman, Syd Barrett, who'd flamed out years before: two grimly funny songs about the evils of the music business ("By the way, which one's Pink?"), and two long, touching ones about the band's vanished friend. The real star of the show, though, is the production: sparkling, convoluted, designed to sound deeply oh-wow under the influence--and pretty great sober too--with David Gilmour getting lots of space for his most lyrical guitar playing ever. And, though the album is big and ambitious, even bombastic, it somehow dodges being pretentious--the Barrett tributes are honest and heartfelt, beneath all the grand gestures and stereophonic trickery. --Douglas Wolk

Comment: i warn you, i'm in love with this album so my review might not be objective or even constructive at all...
I discovered the pink floyd with "the wall". I was 15 and i was very curious so i end buying this album without knowing the band at all.
When my father discovered i enjoyed this cd he was very delighted and he showed me his all collection of records: of course "Wish you were here" was his favorite and as soon as i listened to it i was deeply in love with it too.
i think that to listen to this cd you just need to be free of all opinion. to enjoy it you need to be open minded and accept what is strange and new. you must not be afraid to loose you either.
this kind of music is probably not for everybody but take a chance on it, you might be addicted...
