Customer Rating: Summary: Handy lid for inserting a straw Comment: The lid on this cup is easy to clean. The hole in the screw-type lid is large enough to accept and use with any straw without difficulty. This is a fine way to use the cup when driving, allowing you to drink your coffee on the way to work, etc., without taking your eyes off the road. The vacuum-insulated cup keeps your coffee adequately hot for a couple hours. I much prefer this lid design to the Oxo mug lid. The Oxo lid is more spill proof, but it does not accept a straw so you must drink directly from the cup, which is awkward as you get near the bottom of the cup if you're driving; with the Oxo mug, you must tilt the cup upwards while trying to see the road and traffic at the same time. It's also impossible to access all parts of the Oxo's complicated lid for full cleaning.
Customer Rating: Summary: This goes everywhere Comment: My husband loves this carrier for his coffee. It will keep coffee hot for at least three hours. It's in the car or in his golf cart every day. Ours is about four years old and holding up very well. It even goes in the dishwasher with no ill effects. At the current price of $17.82 with super saver shipping, it is well worth the cost.
Customer Rating: Summary: Faithful up until recently Comment: I used this religiously for the past 2 years not having experienced any big problems outside of those mentioned in the previous reviews--the leaking issues, the coffee drip on the nose, etc. I loved that it kept my drink hot for hours--I am not exaggerating!
Well, okay, one little complaint is that it is a bit cumbersome to wash the thing. With all of the little areas that the coffee can sit (from the sloshing around and the liquid settling itself in the different areas on top of the lid or just from drinking it) it is not the easiest to clean. I'm a nut when it comes to cleaning things so when I see that there is stuff stuff in the nooks and crannys of my mug, I can't just let it go. I'll pull out the little bottle brushes, sponges, wash clothes to get the stuff out. No biggie for many people and if you don't care then you read all of this nonsense for nothing! Sorry!
BUT just this morning, the thing started to drip. I looked closely to see where it was coming from thinking that it was just that I hadn't tightened the mug. So I tightened it but it kept dripping! I realized that it was coming from lower part of the mug. The older model had 2 rubber gripping strips going around the mug. Well the bottom strip was loose and that is where the coffee was leaking. Sigh. Yes, it's just a mug but I loved this mug. It kept my drinks super hot for the longest time. The weird thing is that I can't figure out why that rubber gripping would not have been glued on and why it would've affected the mechanics of the cup to where if it became loose, the coffee would start dripping out. Geesh.
But I love the mug so much that I'm going to see if I can contact the manufacturer (Amazon, from what I have heard, has notoriously horrible customer service when it comes to fielding people's complaints--sorry, could be wrong but that is what I heard!) And if they decide that it is normal wear and tear then I'm going to order another one and just assume that I'll have to replace this thing every couple of years. Boo hoo!
If this thing would not have happened it would've gotten the 5 stars that it deserves. But to think that now I'll probably have to fork out another $20 is annoying.
Customer Rating: Summary: Long Lasting Heat, could spill Comment: Provided you pre-heat this with hot water (I just use tap water that's hot) before you pour you coffee, you will have hot coffee all day...if you don't leave the flip-top latch open all day (generally a good practice since it naturally allows the heat to escape).
This thermos would have received 5 stars from me if it didn't spill (though it closes all openings, it will leak out of the latch's hole if tipped sideways, which I'm guilty of doing when my hands are full). The other thing is if your nose touches the latch, your likely to get a small bit of coffee on the tip of it.
I do recommend this if you aren't going to be tipping, but since I do, I'm going to try the OXO one next.
Customer Rating: Summary: 11 Years and Still Going Strong Comment: I have had this mug for 11 years and it's still the best out of all the others I have accumulated along the way. I have bought others that have fancy handles to attach to my bag, ones with non-leak lids, etc. But none have had the ability to keep my drink warm for hours like this one. I sip my coffee and take a long time to drink one cup so this one is perfect for me. The flip top leaks if the cup is dropped, but I will take that risk over having cold coffee an hour after I fill the cup.
My only complaint is that the inside seal around the top has started to allow liquid in causing yucky gunk to build up that is really hard to clean.
