Baking a beautiful cake is an art and to properly practice your art, you need the right tools. This nylon baking spatula from Calphalon is a great multipurpose baking tool. Use the serrated side of the 8-inch nylon blade to gently cut through a sheet cake so you can add a raspberry or butter cream filling. Use the nonserrated side to spread the filling to the edges and smooth it down, replace the top layer, and then use the spatula to frost the complete cake. When removing cakes from round cake pans, slide the end of the spatula around the edges to help lift it out. When you're done, just toss it in the dishwasher to clean. Customer Rating: Summary: A rather flimsy cutter Comment: This baking spatula/cutter will not scratch your non-stick cookware or bakeware. For that reason alone, it is worth buying. I have used it many times to remove baked goods from "non-stick" bakeware, which always seems to stick anyways. However, this spatula/cutter does have some issues. It is very long, and rather flimsy. To cut effectively, I have found I must hold the handle very close to the cutting edge in order to keep the cutter from bending. It is somewhat clumsy to use, but better than scratching your bakeware with metal! It is not very useful for cutting anything hard, (several day old brownies for example), because it is simply too flimsy. Customer Rating: Summary: A necessity with Calphalon Comment: This cutter is essential if you plan on baking with Calphalon. It does a surprisingly good job of cutting through baked goods given that it's nylon. Most importantly, it won't harm the non-stick surface on your bakeware. I've found (the hard way) these surfaces to be susceptible to even the lightest pressure with a metal blade. So, flip the six bucks and protect your bakeware! Customer Rating: Summary: Stars for the spatula! Comment: Another great item from Calphalon. I purchased this item to help remove cookies and brownies from my baking sheet...it works extremely well. A standard spatula always leaves a cooked on mess on my baking pans. This item has a cutting edge that makes it very easy to remove _all_ of the baked goods from the pan with one pass. My pans are cleaner after I cook now and they have maintained that 'new' look much longer than in the past. A must for anyone that like to bake.
