Editorial Reviews:

An independent magazine of critical thinking on political, cultural, social and economic life in the U.S. It perceives race, sex, class and political dimensions of personal life as fundamental in understanding and trying to improve contemporary circumstances.

Summary: Z is not everyone, but is solid
Comment: My review follows questions, so you can find the information you need based on your needs.

If you are looking at this magazine, you are probably searching for something with a leftist insight, if not this is not for you. Of course, if you are like many political junkies you may be interested in seeing all sides, this is for you.

What is its political position?

The magazine is far left. If you are looking for something that tilts democrat, I suggest, in order of moderation, The New Republic (more DLC in nature lately) The American Prospect, and The Nation. This magazine has a Green Party, and Libertarian Socialist feel.

What is the difference between the content in the magazine and the stuff on the website?

In brief: a lot. The magazine offers a more journalistic commentary feel on current events and investigations. It covers labor, feminism, environment etc. It feels a lot like In These Times in what it covers. The Website has a lot of leftist academic oriented articles that are posted daily.

Is it worth the subscription?

Yes, except a lot of the stuff is online. I would really check the articles online before you decide to buy it. It will be hard to come by in a library.

Summary: Wide ranging and always intriguing
Comment: Z magazine brings together some of the best journalism and opinion writing on a diverse array of pertinent global and local political matters (certainly political in the broad sense)
Probably the best resource for perspectives from the so-called "left" and news of world events that can be very hard to find elsewhere. For a more editorial type magazine, see The Progressive, which is more a mainstream style of monthly magazine, but still offers a great degree of clarity on important issues.

Summary: The Real Liberal Media
Comment: Do you belive the mainstream media has a Liberal slant? Read Z and see what the media would look like if that were actually true.

Informative and cuts against the gain of the boot-licking corporate media.

Summary: Superb news analysis journal
Comment: The best publication of it's type. Should be in every library and every school. Informative, literate and provocative. My only negative is that I wish it was a larger publication. I have had my subscription for 4 years and it is a definite read for me each month.

Summary: A magazine for thinkers
Comment: Those who value thinking and knowing should read Z Magazine regularly.
