Customer Rating: Summary: No sound Comment: Wasn't aware there wasn't a sound input on this card when I bought it - I'm sure it works fine but I have no use for it without sound so now I am shopping for a sound card - pain in the butt!@@ Customer Rating: Summary: Unhappy Comment: I was very unhappy with this product. It says it's easy but it's very difficult to figure out unless you know about computers and plugs........I could not get the sound to work for nothing until my friend figured out we need another plug with by chance we had. But there was nothing in the product to explain set up or what you would need for sound or even how to use this product. Customer Rating: Summary: For the price it's ok Comment: I read the reviwes of this product before i bought it and a saw a few complaints about audio and imagege syncronization, well i have no such problem with that.
I wanted to convert all my old VHS movies to DVD format and i bought this card to do that, no problem with the hardware or software, everything works like it supose to, the only 3 downsides i found after 3 months of experience with this card where:
1 - Even if you chose the best quality to generate the output file, it will come out poor image and audio comparing to the original analog. VHS format.
2 - The ouput file generated, is very big, to give you an idea of this, chosing the best quality possible and after compressing 120min of VHS movie you will obtain an output file so big that you will have to burn 2 DVD's to store the file (if your luky! )...
3 - The edition software could be better...
but you need to take in consideration the price of this equipment that is very good. If you want something with more quality you can find other products, but the price is almost 3 times more expensive than this one, and i dont't garantee the quality will be much better than this one.
Bottomline, for the price that' ive paid it's OK, but i dont't think i will use this card to convert VHS movies into DVD, i will only use it to convert small size documentaries and so.
If you plan to convert movies using this card, well you better think twice, i order the original DVD from the net like i did.
Customer Rating: Summary: Didn't work for me Comment: Installed the card and software - no problems. But I cannot get a picture. I've spent many hours trying to get it to work all to no avail. Customer support sucks. Customer Rating: Summary: Good hardware, mediocre software Comment: 0. Using a 2.6GHz P4, 512 MB memory. Windows XP.
1. Easy Installation, both for the card and the software.
2. The hardware works great, except I haven't figured out how to capture through Nero.
3. Currently, I use VirtualDub with DivX 5.2.1, standard speed at 4mbps, although HuffyUV and MJPEG are usually suggested for this, but needs LARGE disk space. Has a few dropped frames, but mostly OK. Then postprocess it later into smaller DivX files.
4. The software (neoDVDstandard):
a. The image quality for VCD/Mpeg1 and "Good" quality for DVD/Mpeg2 are quite bad.
b. The image quality for "Best" quality for DVD/Mpeg2 is quite good. The file size is a bit on the large side. But it's OK if you are going to compress it into mpeg-4. However,
c. There are serious sound sync problems. One can hear pops and dropping of segments of sound quite frequently. This is usually no big problem for family or travel video, but if you have a music video on VHS to dub, BIG PROBLEM.
d. The tutorial is crap. No use at all.
e. Also, something happened at installation that caused it to be installed in German. There is no way to switch back to English inthe application. Since I know a little bit of German, I did not bother to see if this can be corrected by reinstallation.
In conclusion, I would say the hardware is fairly decent. The software is quite easy to use, and produces good video quality, and bad audio quality(but good enough for most family videos).
