Customer Rating: Summary: Excellent Buy Comment: This knife cost me less than its baby brother the flash I but its 4 times as handy.
As a daily carry knife I prefer these because when I loose a Emerson or a Benchmade I feel like a fool. I could handle a 35.00 relacement instead of 200.00 dollars
Customer Rating: Summary: Not meant for big mits. Comment: Not meant for large hands.
My hands are small but, even I find it a little clumsy.
It's quite tiny. It's best feature has to be the safety mechanism.
This mechanism must be initiated before pushing on the thumb stud. I like it because I prefer to keep my knife clipped to the inside of my waist band. And the safety keeps the blade from being accidentally propelled open in your pants. Though, it is ambidextorious, it is easier for me to use my right hand, and takes some doing with the left. I'm not to impressed with the plastic handle, but as a person who has also taken apart my knife to examine the internals, I can tell you, it's solid construction. You won't be breaking this knife any-time soon.
(There is a spring inside the handle that propels the blade out after you press on the stud.)
The Flash II is exactly the same as the Flash I, only larger. Better for bigger hands.
However, it's not better than a Kershaw knife,( "Tactical Blur")
The Kershaw's handle is more solidly made and it has a bar instead of a spring. The Kershaw bar propells the blade lightening fast. But injury is a big concern. The Flash though not as quick as the Kershaw, has the safety. Which makes a safer knife than the Kershaw.
I give the Flash I, Four stars: for....
1. Solid Blade construction.
2. Safety mechanism.
3. Discrete carry pocket clip.
4. Ease of use.
It doesn't get a fifth star because there is no blunt end at the base of the blade to keep your thumb from scraping the edge when you open it.
And for the plastic handle as well, and no brass bushings on the inside wear blade meets handle.
(Sorry for spelling errors, to lazy to get 10 pound dictionary out)
Customer Rating: Summary: Great warranty service. Neat knife. Comment: I received great warranty support from SOG. The problem was actually my fault when I disassembled the knife. I explained the whole issue and they fixed it and put in a new part that I had lost! The lock up is not as tight as the linerlocks from Kershaw (Onion), but I don't care for linerlocks. The piston on the SOG is inherently 'wobbly', but I feel it is safer. You really have to look at the insides of the SOG. It is a modified lockback in my opinion, which I like.
Customer Rating: Summary: SOG Warranty Department STINKS! Comment: Now, let me get this right. For more than seven months I have been trying to get some acknowledgement of my bent wine opener, reputed to be one of the finest in the world and, BTW, of which I ordered two, in order to give one for my husband to give as a gift to his best man a little over a year ago. Now you tell me I have to pay to return it to you so you can "evaluate" it, despite seeing pictures of the bent material and knowing full well that it is bent and useless. I then need to write you a little note explaining that I was opening a wine bottle with my wine bottle opener and it bent and I want it replaced. Then I must purcahse shipping materials, find the time to go mail it, pay for shipping and insurance and then, after your receive it, I must wait a few weeks for you to decide whether to honor your warranty or not. Hmmmmm... Ok, if that's my only choice then to heck with it. I don't need it that bad and I can save the time and start seeking out every web site I can find, including my own, and explain to the world my experiences with SOG's fine lifetime warranty department. With disposable income in my household of more than 130K a year as a middle-aged Professional DINK couple, it's not like I can't move on to the next decent brand, but as a fixed blade knife collector, I assumed that SOG would (1) make a fine product and (2) stand behind their warranty without (3) making the process so difficult as to be prohibitive in the value trade-off. But you win. Your company won't have to make good on a $50. corkscrew and I won't bother purchasing any other SOG product again. I'll also try to help cut down on the work the warranty department has to do with problems such as this by informing friends, neighbors, other shoppers, and the visitors to my site that they don't need to waste their time with SOG, either. Heck, being as I have a programmer here in the house, maybe I'll see if he can't work up a little spider program that will search out sites and post my complaint for me. All in the name of being a responsible consumer concerned for my fellow consumers. Set this note aside for a few weeks then do a search for "Neva", SOG" "warranty" and see how many hits you get. ----- Original Message ----- From: Warranty Dept. Customer Rating: Summary: Very pleased Comment: This is a fine, little knife. The handle is thin and light. The blade is quite sharp. The assist, lock and safety all work well. There is a very simple knack to opening it with the assist, but once you get it, it works very well in either hand. The clip works well for keeping in a jeans pocket, and extracting it quickly. It is small, but that's what it's supposed to be.I liked it so well, I got the Flash II, full-size as well. I would buy them again without hesitation.
