Spotlight customer reviews:
Customer Rating: Summary: Painful Comment: I found these hurt my ears after 15-20 mins. They worked well and the sound quality wasn't bad over skype, but the uncomfortable design is a significant setback. Customer Rating: Summary: Hurt my ears Comment: Kinda sharp plastic hurts the tops of my ears where it rests. Almost cutting my ears. Better than any other headset I've tried though. Had complaints about sound quality but that may be the fault of software. Customer Rating: Summary: Not a bad occassional use headset Comment: Pros: Light, have different coloured ear covers. Sound and microphone are good
Cons: If like me you use them everyday then will wear out quickly. The foam headphone covers fall off and the foam covering the microphone has fallen off. Customer Rating: Summary: At the 3-month mark~ @_@ Comment: Well, the price was just right and I got 3 due to the pricing~
Their fates are, after 3 months of continuous use:
1. Working just fine, clear sound, working microphone ^o^
2. Microphone is not picking up sound, unless you stuff it in your mouth basically @_@;
3. Microphone does not seem to work at all, and was a bit dodgy from the beginning
1 and 3 were taken very good care of, 2 might have been been or twisted a few too many times ^o^
Still, was worth the price for the usage I got from it ^__^ Customer Rating: Summary: For the College Student without Wireless Comment: Here's two plus years of experience with my current set summed up into pros & cons.
Pros:
- Long cord is great for those who move around their desk a lot.
- Price when I bought it and current price (3/5/08) is affordable and won't break the bank.
- Side panels on the earspeakers are changeable for those who like personalizing their items. With the set I had you could chose from red, black, blue, and orange changeable covers.
- Good for basic chat needs.
- Headset has a volume adjuster on the cord as well as a switch to mute the microphone.
Cons:
- Band that goes around the head is not adjustable. Those with larger heads may have problems getting the headset to fit.
- Plastic on the headband, particularly over the ears, has had issues with having some sharp plastic edges. On mine it was particularly noticeable over the right ear. I had to file it down a little for it to be wearable for longer periods of time.
- Foam over the microphone and earspeakers easily tears and/or comes off.
- The color on the customizable covers can be easily scratched off on all except the black covers. With the exception of black, the covers are actually silver colored with a red/blue/orange color coating.
- The tool supplied to take off the customizable covers is VERY tiny. It's about a half inch long and maybe a quarter inch wide, if that. Aside from being easily lost, if you have one cover that just doesn't want to pop off, the size of this tool will not give you leverage.
- Will not record quality sound. If you need some recording done, this isn't what you are looking for.
Other:
- Even after adjusting programs/computer, sound output from microphone tends to be quieter/lower in volume in comparison to other headsets. As this didn't always happen, this could be the settings on my friends computers, but my headset was the only one they were having issues with and this was across various chat programs. In any case, if this is an issue with the headset, it could be a problem for people trying to listen to you if they have music/game sounds/etc also going through their speakers that they are listening to.
Summary:
The price is really what makes this headset. (A higher price would have knocked this down a star.) These are the rag-tag pair of headphones you can take to a gaming/chat session, beat up and/or lose and not be terribly worried about it. For students, the extra long cord is great for letting you get up and walk around the dorm room. However, if you want something lasting, comfortable, or with better sound quality (mostly with the pickup in the mic), then I would suggest looking elsewhere.
