In the almost two and a half years it took to make their third album, Canadian rage rockers Finger Eleven have undergone a radical transition. Gone are the overwrought guitars, gratuitous venting, and nu-metal posturing that marked their early work. In their place are some tightly constructed melodies and emotionally articulate lyrics weaved into a coherent song cycle that documents the disintegration of a relationship. This isn't to say the one-time headbangers have gone soft because they're writing love songs and featuring gorgeous acoustic guitar work. There are some bonecrushers among the 11 songs here, but the sturdy rockers are less prosaic than the band's earlier efforts, and it's clear that they have paid more attention to song structure and dynamics, although Scott Anderson's staccato delivery can give you whiplash. --Jaan Uhelszki

Customer Rating: Summary: Big LEt DOWn Comment: THis cd is crap. if you have heard the last album Greyest of blue skies, then you no what i am talking about. This cd has about 3 maybe 4 songs. The last cd was amazing almost like COld and Staind feel. But if you were expecting that then for worn not going to get it. This album, i have no clue why, but has become a maintstream album, or a one hit wonder. If you wnat the ebst of the former band called rainbow butt monkey's get their 2000 release greyest of blue skies
Customer Rating: Summary: Jeff's review Comment: I like a thew songs by this band , I bought this CD mostly for a song that is featured on the burn out 3 game "Stay in Shadow " , I also enjoy the song " One Thing" , I don't regret buying this CD, I soon found the whole CD is pretty good.
Buy it !
Customer Rating: Summary: Very solid album Comment: This album is definitely slower and more radio-friendly than Greyest of Blue Skies but by no means is it an inferior product, nor is it derivative or bland. They haven't sold out to create this sound, the guitars are at the standard and creativity we've come to expect and in particular the first five tracks are very enjoyable. The only reason I gave this album 4 stars is that the last half of the album drags somewhat.
Customer Rating: Summary: I want more!!! Comment: I'm a long time fan of the band and this CD did not dissapoint! Some argue that "One Thing" is the best song here but it grows tiresome to me and sounds too much like a Beetles B-side...the real gem here is "THOUSAND MILE WISH" which is just perfectly pieced together. I admitt that I was taken aback by the inclution of aucustic tracks here...I was not expecting this at all, but I was pleased that a band with such an aray of talent was able to bring something new to the table. I still feel that the best way to really appreciate this band is to see them live...I've seen them 3 times now and will again as soon as possible. From start to finish this CD is amazing...Songs like "OTHER LIGHT" and "STAY IN SHADOW" showcase the side we've all seen, songs appearing on TGoBS album. "ABSENT ELEMENTS" and "COMPLICATED QUESTION" have the general F11 vibe to them, much like their contemperary singles off their debut album Tip. "GOOD TIMES", the first single, has a feel reminisent of "DRAG YOU DOWN" while "LAST SCENE OF STRUGGLING" is sure to excite. "THERAPY" has a much different sound to it and can't be classified. It's decent, not my favorite, but warents a listen. My favorite track aside from the brilliant "THOUSAND MILE WISH" is the stunning closer "OBVIOUS HEART"...the chorus is just so titilating it will be in your head for days. I love this band, they are a solid brilliant band that stands the tests of time and continue to turn out masterpiece after masterpiece...I just wish more people took notice!
Customer Rating: Summary: Keep it coming! Comment: Great CD hands down. I've been a huge fan of Finger Eleven for years now and each album they release has a welcomed twist on the previous. Let me warn you though as previous reviewers have discovered: 'One thing' is not a typical Finger Eleven recording. It's a great song, but the category 'Hard Rock/Alternative' means just that (do some research!). 'Thousand Mile Wish' is another one of these irregularities regarding Finger Eleven's usual style (despite its dark nature). The rest of the CD is the complement of these two songs and a good representation of the previous work from the band - their heavier side. 'Other Light', 'Obvious Heart', and 'Therapy' are my personal favorites. Collectively it's a well rounded CD with varying intensities and sounds. I respect the band for branching into different styles to see what works for them (as serious artists do), and in this case it payed off. Great work, 5 stars.
