Summary: Don't believe the ad
Comment: This device will not decode dolby digital. It only passes thru a dolby digital signal to an external decoder, and I could not even get that to work over the coax or optical inputs. I guess for what I paid it is OK, but what I want is to get true dolby digital to my A/V receiver from my notebook via digital (optical or coax) connection. The ads make it sound like this is all you need. Don't believe it and don't buy it !!!!

Summary: Pc Sound over stero
Comment: I used this to bring my music library located on pc in basement to my stereo upstairs via network and laptop. I hooked up a toslink cable to stereo and I tunes auto networks itself over an established network, and viola!

Summary: Bad choice, digital outputs do not do 5.1 !!!
Comment: Well my computer cabinet is 15 feet away from the monitor in the other room...I got this mainly because i wanted to reduce wiring and introduce an optical/coaxial cable to my 5.1 receiver instead of 6 audio rca cables all the way to the receiver, plus wanted to be able to control individual speaker volumes on the pc. Couldnt do that in optical or coaxial mode, no way!! This card can only do stereo mode with digital output. So I am using those analog 5.1 outputs to the receiver (atleast from the cabinet to my desk its usb so my mission is half accomplished) but hey wait...One more shocking thing I noticed is that the volume control is in no way co-ordinated, which means that as you turn the volume each speaker is incremented/decremented unevenly!!! Takes place subtle so you dont notice it much but if youre into very low-decibel listening you will certainly pull your hair over this.

Overall an ok card if you like decent looks. If you want something cheaper, go for an audigy se instead, it does exactly the same thing at half the cost.

Summary: Many problems with optical output, Poor customer support
Comment: I use it to connect my PC to a receiver via the optical link, but I find the mute button, the volume control, the headphone all stop working. The PC flashes the message "invalid speaker configuration".
I then called the customer support. The guy had no clue, keeping saying "maybe", "yes", "possible"... In the end, he concluded it was supposed to work that way (of malfunction).

Summary: My favorite sound card
Comment: Actually, I loved the Philips Acoustic Edge, an earlier and internal sound card, but it did not like my older dual-processor system. Because of that I was a bit skittish about using their current internal card with a processor that uses hyper-threading - which Windows treats as dual processors. I bought the Aurelium instead. I love this thing! I am a bit of an audiophile, and this sound card is just perfect. With my Klipsch computer speakers, it makes a perfect combination.
