Customer Rating: Summary: Great converter for transfering VHS to DVD Comment: I ordered the Canopus ADVC-110 Advanced Digital Video Converter to transfer my library of VHS tapes to DVD's via computer and editing.
I've tried a couple other converters, one being the Plextor 401U but the Canopus ADVC-110 works MUCH better and was a breeze to setup.
I have an Alienware system running Vista Ultimate 32 bit and the computer recognized the converter as soon as I plugged it in. I bought this item from Electronica Direct via Amazon and the service was fast and I received the product within 6 working days.
Customer Rating: Summary: Performs as expected Comment: The Canopus ADVC110 converts analog video to DV smoothly. I use it to convert a live 4-camera mix from an Edirol switching board to DV so it can all be recorded live to a hard drive on a computer at my church. Prior to this we were recording in mpeg2 format to a Toshiba DVR. Now we can capture in DV which is superior in quality and editability. The services we record are generally over 45 minutes, and the unit never sputters during the long sessions. The software I use to capture is Adobe OnLocation, and I'm using a Quad-Core computer. The Canopus works flawlessly with this setup.
Customer Rating: Summary: Simple and efficient. Comment: The Canopus Analog to Digital video converter has completely alleviated the stress pent up from my previous attempts at converting VHS and Hi-8 videos to DVD. I had previously attempted to convert these analog formats to digital using a cheaper USB 2.0 ATI adapter and had terrible results. When it comes to video conversion, you get what you pay for. I would have been better off shelling out the $200+ in the first place and saved myself the headache. The Canopus has worked with any program I've thrown at it. Great driver support! The video quality captured with this device is top notch.
Customer Rating: Summary: Canopus ADVC110 and iMovie Comment: I've been using the Canopus ADVC110 with an Intel iMac using iMovie to edit a wedding video from a rather poor VHS recording. The 110 did a great, hassle free job of cleaning up the video. I hooked it up right out of the box using the supplied cables with no external drivers or software and in 10 minuets or less I was converting the video to a digital recording. When I opened iMovie it immediately recognized the Canopus with no problems. I ordered the power supply with mine, but if you use the supplied 6 pin Firewire cable you shouldn't need the power supply. I'm using component connection between the Canopus and the VCR and you do have another choice of using S-video connectivity. My only complaint about this product is that it doesn't have a power on/off switch so the unit is always on unless you pull the plug. I highly recommend this product especially if you use an Apple computer.
Customer Rating: Summary: Outstanding Video Quality Comment: I've been using it to convert my old 1989-1993 era VHS tapes to digital video. I'm using a JVC HR-S9600U VCR with S-video to the Canopus ADVC110 and then using Roxio Media Creator 9.1 as the software capture program. Roxio recognized the Canopus through the firewire port immediately. The quality of the video is just great. I didn't realize I could also use the Canopus to record TV shows in Digital Video (which is actually AVI for everything) and the TV shows have outstanding picture and sound quality as well. I highly recommend. The only thing I had to do was set one of the DIP switches so that the unit would power on in analog video mode instead of digital video. BTW, I also recommend Roxio Easy Media Creator for editing and creating WMV video clips for email and also for burning DVDs. It is way better than Adobe Premiere Elements 4 IMHO.
