Editorial Reviews:

The two port MiniView Micro USB Audio KVM switch from IOGEAR is the simplest way to manage two PCs or Macs from a single PS/2 keyboard, monitor and PS/2 mouse and share the multimedia speakers among them. This self-powered KVM switch features mouse and keyboard emulation to ensure smooth operation, as well as support for Plug-n-Play monitors and most wheel mice. IOGear's patented VSE Video Signal Enhancement technology provides rich, 32-bit color at resolutions up to 2048 x 1536. With KVM cables (6' long) molded into the unit, all you need to do is to plug it into your computers, and you've got a complete KVM solution from IOGEAR.

Summary: Works well, but cables are finicky!
Comment: I used an Iogear GCS62 2-port KVM for a year and was very pleased. I upgraded my PCs and no longer needed PS/2 on the computer side, so I went with this USB version. So far I'm happy - it seems to work well - but am less pleased with the cables and connections on this unit.

On the body of the switch itself, Iogear moved the PS/2 connections from the sides to the end, flanking the VGA connector. This presents a problem for my Microsoft USB/PS2 mouse, since its wide connector rubs against the video cable. I much preferred the old side-mounded ports, which weren't such a tight fit.

Then there are the computer cables. Each VGA cable has a captive USB and audio cable attached to it with a sort of sliding cuff. But they point out of the PC instead of into it - in other words, a single cable comes from the KVM to the VGA connector, and then two smaller cables spring out of the VGA connector and head back up the VGA cable, where they are held on with cuffs. This makes connecting these cables (USB and audio) awkward since they are heading in the wrong direction. The cables are also shorter than they ought to be, making it a tight fit to reach my audio out jack from my VGA port.

I haven't noticed any audio crosstalk or static problems, though. And the keyboard and mouse support is rock solid.

Summary: Sound electronic noise
Comment: The function of the KVM is flawless, but the sound switching has a problem in that there is electronic feedback or crosstalk and you get a irritating headache causing, high pitch twang and you end up unplugging the sound cable to the KVM.

Summary: KVM pretty good, slight problem
Comment: This is a pretty good product: was easy to install, functions well, is valuable to display small Fujitsu P1510 on desktop. Only bad feature is that when the desktop comes out of "sleep mode" - the spacebar will automatically go on forever until you hit the hot key once to stop it. Nothing severe, it is an annoyance, but worth it for me.

Comment: This didn't work so well for me - computer locked up and ran really slow.

Summary: Great For Multitasking/Developers/Sys Admins
Comment: This switch is truly great for those of us who use multiple machines to get our work done. I myself use this switch with my PowerBook G4 running OS X, and a Dell OptiPlex desktop running Windows XP and Debian Linux, with the PowerBook spanning screens when I have it switched active with this KVM. I can easily and quickly switch between OS X and Windows or Linux to compile and test software on the various platforms, as well as perform system administration functions on my various machines without the obvious hassle of plugging and unplugging that this switch is obviously designed to take care of.

All in all, it's a very simple device, but very effective. Those of us who could use something like this only need a review to confirm whether or not it works as intended, and aside from audio, which I could care less about, it works wonderfully. The only caveat I could find with it is that using the Scroll Lock key with the Macintosh active causes the internal LCD to dim (by design, apparently, as it takes the function of the hardware F1 key), but that's not much of an issue for me. If it isn't for you, I highly recommend this product . . .
