Summary: RUINED TWO HARD DRIVES WITH THIS THING / FAULTY POWER DELIVERY TO HDD CREATES MECHANICAL ISSUES
Comment: It is unlikely you will find this review since CompUSA is out of business ( NO SURPRISE for VARIOUS REASONS ) but every drive we plugged into this thing seemed to work but suddenly power hiccups within the first hour caused the disk to power off then back on rapidly and this created issues, the first drive had bad sectors that couldn't be repaired with software tools and eventually the HDD failed.

The 2nd disk just toasted immediately despite the fact it was working just fine inside a notebook until plugged into this adapter.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS UNLESS YOU HAVE TO RUIN A 2.5" IDE DRIVE with certainty.

Summary: Great working case
Comment: I've had this case for nearly a year and have had no problems with it. I just upgraded my laptop drive again and now I need another case so I'll buy another one of these.

Mine came with two cables: one USB data cable and one USB/P2S power cable. The power cable will connect either to a powered USB port or to your PS2 Mouse/Keyboard port. It inserts into the PS2 inline, so the mouse or keyboard can still be used.

I use mine with the PS2 connector on my laptop to power the drive since I don't use that connector for anything else.

Be careful when using the PS2 connector. On most motherboards, the PS2 connector is fused with a non-consumer-replacable soldered-in pico fuse. If your drive blows the PS2 fuse, you'll probably be headed for the shop or for a new PC. Never connect anything to your PS2 connector with the power to the PC on. That means that, in general, this drive is not hot-pluggable only if you use the PS2 connector.

I actually do plug and unplug my portable drive from the PS2 connector on my laptop. It was a risk I took because I never used the PS2 for anything else anyway. I was prepared to live with the consequences if the port quit working. Luckily, it hasn't.

All that said, the safe thing is to connect the power cable using the USB connector if your ports will power the drive. Mine won't which is why I tried the PS2 port.

A lot of portable drive case reviews complain about the case if it takes both the power cable and the USB cable to power your drive, or if, in some cases like mine, you can't power the drive with both the data USB and the power USB together - it takes the PS2 port to power the drive. Well, that's never the fault of the case or of the cables. That is always a problem with either that your ports are not providing the full rated 5 volts at 500 milliamps (5 amps) for a total of 2.5 watts per bus or it is that your 2.5 inch drive requires more than the ports provide.

The case, and it's tiny little adapter board which draws only a miniscule amount of power, are not the problem.

So, the point of all this? This case works. Others may or may not work.

In deciding, don't judge any of the cases based on complaints about port power. Judge based on whether or not, when they are adequately powered, the drive works.

Summary: 90 Day Warranty For a Product That Lasts only 90 Days
Comment: This enclosure worked well for about three months of very infrequent use. Now it wont power up - even with both cables connected. You would be better off looking for an enclosure with a warranty of more than 90 days that this product provides.
