Customer Rating: Summary: Not quite ready for Vista 'Prime Time" Comment: Unfortunately, the card didn't perform at all. I contacted Turtle Beach and tried every fix they recommended, but "no joy". I attempted every configuration suggested, but still couldn't get the card to produce any intelligible sound. First, the sound produced only silence. Then there was the never-ending echo chamber. Subsequently, we got sound, but they were as if they were produced in slow-motion mode. I took a while before we agreed that for some unknown reason the card and my computer were just not "sympatico". Thru it all, the tech support was great, but nothing seem to work. The developers told me they are working on new, upgraded software that will provide some new features and possibly solve my problems. So, for now, I've reverted to my previous card and software. I still want features the Montego software provides, particularly some that the developers are working on. However, until a newer version is thoroughly tested and released, I'll wait until I know that it's ready for "prime time". Again, I do commend the technical staff for their willingness to stay with me until we just couldn't come up with anything new to try. Not all vendors would to that.
Customer Rating: Summary: Works well. Comment: I bought this based on product reviews, so perhaps others know more than I do about these sound cards. However, I found installation to be problematic on my HP desktop, perhaps because of conflicting drivers/software from onboard sound hardware. Installation was tough, and I could hear no difference between this card and my stock onboard sound.
Customer Rating: Summary: Audiophile quality confirmed Comment: Truly amazing sound quality using the optical out to my amp. The range is just ear candy. Well worth the price and then some. Buy it!
Customer Rating: Summary: Great Value Soundcard Comment: This soundcard is awesome for the money. I would strongly recommend NOT using the enclosed CD to install the drivers. Just install them yourself via your Device Manager. Also, the digital/optical is only for 2.1 sound. Being able to connect your computer to your stereo receiver with one optical cable is great, but the sound will only work if you set it for 2 speakers. All things considered, I'm definitely satisfied with the purchase. This is a great card for the money and spending more on a better card is just overkill IMO.
Customer Rating: Summary: Fine for the price Comment: So far this is a good product. I like the way speaker placement/sound can be virtually moved around to account for different room configurations.
The only issue I don't like is that when using the analog line-in, say from satellite to pc, the sound is pass-through only (direct to speakers) - so it can't be adjusted with the soundcard's internal equalizer or other effects. If I had known that before hand I probably would have chosen another product, as I don't want to be concerned with an external decorder. I guess I misunderstood the hype about "Dolby Digital Live"
The (buggy) Soundblaster I had previously included Dolby decoding built-in, and now I can see where that makes a difference with the (analog) line-in signal - it was adjustable using the internal Soundblaster equalizer. But then again the Soundblaster was a nightmare to install and get running so it balances out I guess.
