Editorial Reviews:

The IOGEAR DVI KVMP Switch GCS1764 charts a revolutionary new direction in KVM switch functionality by providing an interface for today's digital monitors while integrating a 4-port USB KVM switch with USB peripheral sharing capabilities. As a KVM switch, the unit allows the user to access four computers from a single USB keyboard, USB mouse, and monitor, and also share among the computers peripherals such as external hard drives, printers and scanners.

The GCS1764's independent (asynchronous) switching feature allows the KVM focus to be on one computer while the USB peripheral focus is on another. The user can switch from one computer to another without interrupting print jobs, downloads or other functions being handled by connected peripherlas. This eliminates the need to purchase a separate USB hub as well as the need to purchase separate stand-alone peripheral sharers - such as printer servers, modem splitters, etc. It further improves on previous designs with DVI (Digital Video Interface) connectors, and the transfer of keyboard and mouse data to the computers via a fast, reliable USB connection. DVI supports both digital input (flat panel displays, data projectors, plasma displays, digital TVs and set-top boxes) and analog video input (traditional monitors and TVs). Fully compliant with the USB 1.1 specification - supports transfer rates of up to 12 Mbps DVI digital and analog monitor support - fully compliant with the DVI specifications Computer selection via front panel switches and hotkeys LED display for easy status monitoring Auto Scan Mode for monitoring all computers Complete keyboard emulation for error free booting Superior Video quality - 1600 x 1200; DDC2B Hot pluggable - add or remove computers for maintenance

Summary: Works as advertised
Comment: I've owned multiple KVMs over the years, and this is the only one that has ever worked exactly as advertised. Not only does this one actually support Logitech mice (I've only tried wired ones), and the Microsoft Natural 4000 (the web/home and favorites keys work!), but USB devices are not disconnected when the hub switches away. USB 2.0 works. I have never, ever been able to get hotkeys to work on the other switches, but this one makes it easy. (My last switch was a 4-port Raritan that promised to support what the IOgear one actually does--and it did, as long as by "support" one means "connect as a HID-compliant mouse and keyboard." I'm impressed, and I've never said that about any KVMs before.

Summary: Great KVM switch for DVI - But only supports USB 1.1
Comment: After looking for a KVM that worked well for DVI that supported higher resolutions that didn't cost an bundle, I was excited to see when this one dropped in price so I picked it up. It was easy to set up and worked well with all of the computers I had it connected to. It was only after I had it installed that I noticed it only supported USB 1.1 which I guess is fine for using only the mouse and keyboard, but if those are USB 2.0 and are connected to a USB 2.0 hub with other hardware such as a USB hard drive or thumb drive, the data transfer rate suffers. I ended up moving the hub off the KVM as a result. For everything else, the KVM works great.

Summary: Here's how to disable beep when switching
Comment: There are a few "special" features that are available by accessing Hotkey Setting Mode (HSM).

Invoking HSM
For all Hotkey operations, you must use the number keypad on the right side of your keyboard.
To Invoke HSM (PC-Compatible keyboard):
1. Press and hold the Num Lock key
2. Press and release the Minus key "-"
3. Release the Num Lock key within one half second after releasing Minus key

After HSM has been invoked, press and release B to disable the audible beep heard when switching computers. There are other HSM features too like changing key emulation for Macs. Refer to the manual for full instructions. Online here: [...]

Cons:
1. I had to run a USB hub like others in between the KVM and nForce motherboard PC (no big deal, I used the built-in hub on my monitor).
2. The "Auto Scan" mode scans between all four ports, even if only three or less are connected. (You have to wait on the empty ports).

Summary: Great Product
Comment: Other than the fact you have to have the computer selected you are booting up (otherwise the resolution gets funky), this product works great!! If you are in the market for a DVI switch, this is hands down the best one out there.

Summary: Excellent.... Easy to use and set up and works with my Wireless Microsoft Keyboard and Mouse
Comment: OK So I have had issues in the past with KVM's and wireless keyboards and mice not working, but this works like a charm and have not had any issues with it.

With my wirless microsoft dongle plugged into the front keyboard USB connector I'm able to switch between computers without having any keyboard issues (such as phantom key strokes, or wild mouse behavior). It works like a charm and would definitly recommend this product.
