Summary: will never use this supplier again
Comment: Reliability? what reliability? Mine failed after about 10 hrs of use. I ordered it in May, 2006; started using it in September, 2006 in my lectures; it failed by October.
The company
1. refused to exchange, as it was out-of-warranty according to their terms
2. is incapable of or unwilling to repair.
Use some other make is my recommendation.

Summary: a risk
Comment: it seems a lot of people have had problems with z-bolt factory tuned green lasers. i am one of them. when i got my laser it worked just as i thought it would, but in a matter of days i was already having problems with it (for some reason i wasnt surprised). the laser would filker and then go dim, dimmer than even the red laser it came with. i replaced the batteries and still the same problem. i sent it back to be replaced today. i feel like buying from z-bolt is a risk because it seems like they dont quality test they'r lasers. i'm sure in the end everything will be set right but if i would have known i was going to have to go throught the trouble of sending it back i would have gone with a different company. part of me feels like i should just ask for my money back.

Summary: A green laser review to end all reviews
Comment: I remember my first laser. It was a red keychain pointer that I picked up at a gas station back in the 90's for about 15 dollars. It was such a neat toy to play with at the time, but I still felt that there was something more to be desired. As far back as I remember, green lasers in science catalogs were in the hundreds of dollars back then. But now that I am an amateur astronomer, I need a new tool to show others what I am looking at. Instead of crouching down to the view and pointing up at the object only to be frustrated with them still not seeing it. Not any more.
I am not sure why this laser doesn't show up when you search "green laser", but I ended up deciding to buy this one. I have looked all over the net to learn about green lasers and their powers, legalities, and such, but by the time I was done with choosing this one I was still uncertain about how it would perform. I found that average laser pointers were priced around 100 dollars, with the power of mw<5.00. This laser pointer was guaranteed to be between 4.5-5.0, so that solved by worry about getting a low power tuned laser. I had also before considered another shrouded model titled "astronomy green laser", which wasn't in pen format. It boasted about it's sturdyness over other lasers. Well I have received my laser, and my worries have been put to rest. My laser came in to be 4.96 mw, only .4 below the legal limit! I popped in my Duracell rechargable batteries into it and was amazed by the brilliant green light on my wall. To clarify things that confused me before buying this laser, it's beam is not as bright as the concentrated laser point on a white wall. This is important to realize because some customer images on amazon and thinkgeek.com portray the laser beam as a massive beam. It is more of a thin particle beam. When using it outside at night the laser is clearly seen beaming into the night sky to infinity. This was a relief due the fallacy portrayed on the internet that green lasers under 5mw under perform "wicked lasers". The beam is visable from several feet away, but any further would require hawk eyes to reveal the slender beacon of light. It was also visable in twilight. When using the laser beam as a guide to navigate the sky, it is best to have others observing either in front of behind you, so that they are aligned with the beam. No more frustrations of showing people anything in the sky. More potential for fun was realize using the laser in my room. In a house the beam of light will reflect off of particles of dust, which makes it twinkle. Yet being that my house in not extremely dusty, and I lack a fog machine, I found a perfect alternative to be talc powder. By loosening the power in the bottle and squeezing it, a puff of powder jets up into your laser beam and turns it bright green. I kept filling the air with talc particles until the laser beam shone a brilliant green. By using the same motion as to create a line on a wall with the laser (moving the beam side to side very fast), the beam revealed a twinkling plane of talc particles reflecting the laser that was comparable to the brilliant star fields in Sagittarius.
Besides the laser beam itself, the construction it very well done. It is made of all metal, and with the slight extra weight of rechargable aaa batteries it feels very solid. The on/off button is at the end of the laser in the same style as many flashlights. One note is that my laser came in a bluish black and not in silver. It also came with a free red laser pen, which takes 2 AAA batteries, at a five dollar value. It really isn't very significant when you have the green laser to overkill its insignificant red dot, but it is a nice comparison tool to use when showing people your green laser.
So, 70 dollars later, I am completely thrilled with my new laser. I had my doubts about green lasers and if the extra money paid for them was really worth it, and I must say yes! Every penny.
*Be careful with this laser, I had it on my lap and I sat up, it rolled off my lap onto a concrete surface and it broke inside. Z-bolt replaced it, but I had to use some "wording", to make the warranty cover it.
