The Tripod is easily erected, strong and durable. The Tripod is totally portable and weighs only 12 lbs. The triangular design gives cover and protection from the elements but allowing maximum ventilation. The fabric is made from 150D PU coated nylon and adjustable webbing tension straps and heavy - duty shock - corded poles. The Tripod includes conical sand pockets, pegs and guy ropes for extra stability in stronger winds. SPF 50Measures: 12 FT by 12 FT by 8 FT tallDelivery telephone number is required for this item. Customer Rating: Summary: Not entirely pleased Comment: This product is difficult to errect alone, and is easily torn. Only after two uses it has worn holes at the end of the main stucture. I will be lucky to get; maybe, 3 more uses out of it!
Customer Rating: Summary: The pole snapped and broke Comment: I actually love the looks and the usefullness at my pool. Great for my granddaughter to get out of the sun. The sad part is I came home one day and the pole had snapped at the insertion site into the tip. How do I order new parts?? I live in Vermont so the wind was not an issue, I am not sure how it happened. Buying on Amazon I wonder how do I contact the company?
Customer Rating: Summary: Actually, pretty darn good Comment: I had read the equivocal reviews and was cautious about this purchase. But, because we were bringing some elderly relatives with us for a beach vacation, we needed something. This tripod shelter worked very well. It took a few minutes of analytic thinking to figure out how to assemble it, but, once the concept was clear, it went up quickly. The stakes adequately protected the structure from the wind. It worked wonderfully as a shade shelter from the sweltering sun; the design allowed for a breeze to keep the folks cool. We have had no problems with this item at all.
Customer Rating: Summary: There is one right way to do it Comment: To anyone who complained about how difficult it is to set up, Eagle Scout or not, I can only say that you're not doing it the right way. Or you're too weak to do it. Either way, if it's done right, it's no harder than tying boots snugly.
Hint: when you're ready to bow the 1st pole, set the ferruled end on the ground, vertically between your feet while you're standing up and making sure no dirt can fill it (I set it on a sandal instead of right on the dirt). Pull the fabric down systematically, until the ring passes the ferruled end. Grab the fabric and the pole about 2-3 inches from the end with one hand like you're choking it, making sure the fabric does not slide out again. Lift the pole off the ground so you can see what you're doing. With the other hand, slide the pin into the pole. It's that easy. Repeat the process for the 2nd and 3rd poles.
It took me less than 20 minutes from start to finish, all by myself. The key is to plant the ferruled end of the pole securely on the ground while you work the fabric with both of your free hands.
It's the best shade I've ever bought. The other shade that I own, a 10'x10' type, weighs 50 lbs and is quite large in a package, compared to this 11-lbs shade that fits in a small nylon sack. The 2008 model comes with heavy-duty poles which is an improvement to the smaller diameter poles of the earlier model. There is no way these poles will split, unlike the earlier version, as reported by some.
Customer Rating: Summary: great once it's up Comment: Just came back from a trip to the Outer Banks in NC with this. VERY hard to put up in even normally windy beach conditions. Takes a minimum of 2 people but better with 3. Once up and secured it's great. It's quite the challenge getting there at the beach though.
