Editorial Reviews:

Take your Bluetooth headset experience to new heights with the thoughtfully designed scala-500. The unit comes equipped with all the high-end features and functionalities you would expect from a leading headset, with the addition of revolutionary technology that is designed to cut wind noise.

Easy to wear around your neck or on your belt. Take a closer look.

An ear-clip and an exclusive eye/sunglasses clip come with the scala-500. Take a closer look.
Equipped with the WindGuard solution, the scala-500 overcomes wind interference significantly better than does any other Bluetooth headset on the market. Whether you're walking the sidewalks of a busy city, or biking or hiking on a windy day, you will appreciate this addition.

WindGuard and the scala-500

At a hair more than half an ounce, the sleek and stylish scala-500 is one of the smallest and lightest devices available, but it still offers up to nine hours of talk time. An integrated speaker booster provides substantially higher volume capacity than is common with other headsets. Plus, echo-canceling technology alleviates those annoying voice feedback loops that are common with lesser headsets. An exchangeable ear-loop and eye/sunglasses attachment lets you place the headset where it's most convenient, while handy controls on the device allow you to voice dial, as well as to answer, mute, reject, and transfer calls. A charging cradle ships with the scala-500, offering fast recharging of the headset's internal battery. A carry sleeve is included as well, letting you carry the scala-500 on your belt or around your neck. And last but not least, the scala-500 is Bluetooth 1.2 compliant.

Summary: Nice for price
Comment: I can hear very clearly on this headset and works fairly well for voice dial. A little uncomfortable on the ear at first, but have gotten used to it. All in all a nice headset for the price.

Summary: Not bad for a first try but still looking.
Comment: This headset is comfortable and works well most of the time. IT says range of 30 ft but 3 ft is closer to the truth. Sometimes it gets alot of static iven if I have my phone on the opposite waist. And perhaps most annoying of all is that I cant get the light to stop blinking; announcing to all that I am Borg! Not only that, now the price is much lower than I paid. Moving on.

Summary: Works very well
Comment: Much better than the Jabra 500, this unit has worked up to 30' away from my Treo 700. Good battery life and comes with ear, clip, and eyeglass mounts. No car charger or USB chatger that I'm aware of?

Summary: Good volume, good connectivity with right phone.
Comment: Updated 2/25/2007: It looks as if my original discontent should have been with my phone. I'm now using a Sprint PPC 6700 (Starcom), and this headset works magnificently. I've never had to re-pair. I leave the headset in my car during the week for my trips into work. On the weekend, I charge it. I'm very pleased, now.

The annoying beeps I reported in my earlier review were actually notifications of alerts that I hadn't deleted from the headset.
------------------
I've been looking for a reliable bluetooth headset for my Spring Samsung a900. I've used Motorola and now this item. While, when connected, it works like a charm, all to often I'm hearing beeps - kind of like a glissando(sp) - that I'm assuming is telling me I'm either losing signal or connectivity to the phone. It could well be Sprint and not this headset. Not sure. But that's where this item loses points. I've been unable to find any reference to this particular signal - what it means or how to correct it.

The other thing that bothers me is having to re-pair with the phone every several days.

Maybe I need to wait for the next generation of bluetooth devices.

Short story, long - if you have confidence in your phone's bluetooth signal strength, I can't recommend against this headset. Because I get those strange annoying beeps, though...it's currently sitting on the shelf.

Summary: Over-rated...
Comment: After reading a few of the reviews, I was very excited about getting this item at the low price. I have experienced lower than reported distance. While approximately 30ft is reported, I can walk about 10-15ft away before experiencing static and then losing the signal. After a few weeks the earpiece began to experience inconsistent connections when making and receiving phone calls. After about 6 weeks with the product, connectivity has stopped completely. While the earpiece does come on, connectivity with my phone has been limited at best. On a positive note, set up for the earpiece was pretty easy.
