Customer Rating: Summary: Great printer Comment: We have just recently purchased this product about 3 weeks ago, so far it is working great. We haven't used the scan, copy or fax, however the printer is working great. I agree that it seems to be a bit of an ink hog, but we are looking into having it print only using the black ink instead of color. At this time it'seems the color is running out a lot faster than the black.
Customer Rating: Summary: Very disappointed here... Comment: I would much rather write a better review for this printer, but I simply can't.
My husband who is "Mr. Consumer Reports," usually knows all about what he's wanting to buy. Since he was so kind as to buy me a new imac for Christmas, I decided I would allow him the freedom to choose our new family printer. Our old printer which I bought back in 2000 or 2001, lasted me through at least seven years of printing out hundreds of Christmas newsletters, scores of graphics for projects and photos of the children needed for school posters, birthday invitations, etc. We literally used our old printer, an HP Deskjet to death. I think it was a 970.
**This is the last time I will send my husband to buy a printer without my being there.**
Regarding this printer - the Canon Pixma MP830, I nearly cry every time I print out anything in color. The color comes out much too light. There is simply no comparison to our old HP.
I've also found that the ink is gone in about a quarter of the time it used to run out on the HP.
I can't tell you how disappointed I am with this Canon. Maybe giving it a 3 is a little too generous.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great Printer......uses a lot of ink Comment: Great printer but it uses a lot of ink. Very capable at scanning, printing, copying, and faxing. Very happy with this printer.-
Customer Rating: Summary: Don't buy this piece of crap Comment: I've owned this less than a year and I got a 6A00 error code. Contacted Canon support and followed their instructions. Error did not clear. Now Canon wants to send me a factory refurbished unit that I have to remove parts from my original unit and install in the refurbished unit. This is total BS. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!!!!!
Customer Rating: Summary: Thanks Canon for a Good Workhorse Comment: I am very pleased to be able to give a positive review to an electronic item. So many of them turn out no good regardless of price. Speaking of which this is not the least expensive multi-function printer you can buy, but it is about the best I've found and used.
This is my second MP830 and when I had to buy a replacement I looked at many, read the reviews, and decided to stick with old faithful.
The copy, scan and fax functions on this machine work better than the other three types I have used. No complaint on these functions.
One criticism is that this printer uses a great deal of ink very quickly. Boy that is an understatement. This thing sucks the cartridge dry at a faster rate than a shipwrecked sailor on a desert island sucks rum. The question is what kind of printing do you want. If you only, or mainly, print only black and white, and you don't need any one of the other functions, I must tell you don't buy this. You will be sorry. However, if you want a printer that offers you different qualities of printing, if you want photo printing better than I've had from many great labs, and if you use fax, copy, or scan functions, buy this machine and enjoy your work.
Am I glad Canon still makes this thing.
