Summary: How home network setup should have been all along.
Comment: I struggled off and on for two months to get a DSL modem and a router to work together (tried two different name-brand routers). I spent late nights on Tech Support calls, pushing re-set buttons, re-running install CD's, fiddling with IP addresses, etc. Finally, I gave up in disgust.
I got the 2Wire unit, plugged it in and connected the cables, and I was up & running in 8 minutes. Fast access on the desktop and great wireless speed all around the house. The DSL modem is now where it belongs - in the trash.
If you want to go wireless without getting an ulcer, this is your unit.

Summary: I could not ask for anything better than this.
Comment: This DSL Modem w/Wi-Fi has worked for over 3 years without a burp! I have used the wireless connection that I purchased with this modem on my desktop computer since day 1. In the beginning, I had the Modem hooked up to a 2nd desktop; but since I moved in 6 months ago, the Modem is not hooked up to anything except the phone line, and everything still works flawlessly.
I have also used laptops with this modem in addition to the wireless 2Wire brand wi-fi receiver. I had absolutely no problem connecting to my network using the easy to install 2Wire software.
This modem was provided as a package with SBC Yahoo when I started using it. I have moved out of their coverage area and it is working flawlessly with a different provider.
One last thing I must mention; The 2Wire FIREWALL is perfect! No one outside my network has ever was able to connect to it - not even next door neighbors. When I was in SBC territory I often connected to my neighbors DSL when SBC was down (I lived in a rural area with lots of trees = DSL down more frequently than in a city).
It has been the same since I have moved to a different area. My network is rock solid - no one else can connect - but I still have the advantage of being able to connect to at least 5 neighbors now wirelessly during the infrequent times that my DSL is down here in the city.
I've had many DSL and Broadband modems over the years (I'm a frequent mover) and after using the 2Wire brand, I'm completely spoiled! I will never use anything else!
