Summary: Love for reading while commuting re-kindled!
Comment: I bought the kindle because I commute several hours a week and lugging books, newspapers and magazines becomes such a hassle. I love to read and I often bounce between newspapers, magazines and books; especially when the train ride starts to become unbearable. The Kindle has proven to be absolutely perfect for this task. The simplest thing that I love the most is that I can read my morning paper and hold a cup of coffee at the same time - Woo Hoo!!! Another awesome benefit is that I can download Audible files onto the Kindle, and when I am in my car I can listen to them on the Kindle's speaker. No plugging into the car stereo and no headphones. Remember boys and girls headphones are against the law when you are driving, so no headphones while driving children. Also, Amazon has really made the pricing and purchasing options of the books, papers and magazines really great. If I only want one newspaper or magazine - I buy only one - and I don't have to pay for a whole subscription. And the book prices are great, too, and you can even get a sample before you buy. The best part is that screen is better than any computer screen and probably better than most newspaper print copy; definately better than any hand-held PDA, and I have tried them all. For a commuter like me, I love it!! My back loves it!! We're so happy together.
There are a couple of frustrating things with the Kindle to point out, but I have found that these are not show stoppers. The buttons, not the worst; have you used a PDA laltely??? These buttons take some getting used to, and I have gotten used to them. And if I can learn to use them, you could train a monkey to use them :-) I am sure they could use improvements, but I would not use them as an excuse or as a show stopper from buying the Kindle. File transfer is OK, a little nicer on MAC, but I did not like that I had to Activate the Kindle for Audible content with a Windows PC. I was able to do this very easily, but it is a little kludgy having to use two computers. Again not a show a stopper, because once you are activated, you can easily move Audible content from iTunes to Kindle on the Mac. One other thing, make sure that if you like lots of content you have at least a 2G SD card available to plug into the SD slot.
For the first time around I think that the Kindle is a homerun.

Comment: The Kindle has worked as promised. Their are minor annoyances such as having to use the wheel for much of the nevigation and the general clusiness of the menu system, however, neither is enough to keep me from using the Kindle every day at lunch and breaks. I have had it a very short time and have downloaded five books, a newspaper, a magazine, and am currently reading three sample books. I love being able to keep the back copies of the magazine on the reader so that I can go back and reread an article that I may have only skimmed initially. I would recommend this product to anyone who has wide interests and may be reading more than one book at a time.

Summary: Birthday Gift
Comment: I received my kindle for B-day, just in time for my cruise vacation. Works exactly as expected, love it, and it beats carrying all my usual books on vacation! I've been wanting one since they came out, and i'm far from disappointed! Could it be improved? Absolutely, but i love it. The only notable draw back is as mentioned so many times, the page turning buttons, especially on the right side is accidently pressed too often, but if you leave it in the case, and just fold it back, it really helps minimize that problem. Another note, audible files take longer to download than they do on my mp3 player or PDA but its well worth having it all in one package. Works great on the sun decks, you can read without an issue which was fantastic. Amazon delivered it as promised, quickly and without issue. I'm so excited about it, showed it to several of my friends and family and they want one. If you are avid reader, this is a killer choice, well worth the investment!

Summary: How did I live without it?
Comment: I was a little hesitant at first, because I love my books so much. What would I do without those items that have brought me so much pleasure in the past? But I was encouraged to give it a try. NOW, how did I live without it? It makes it so easy to carry my reading material(s) with me in my purse. I can skip from one book to another, from my Bible to my latest fiction in just a few seconds.
I think these are the answer to all those school children loaded down with text books. This is the 'killer app' for the Kindle. School Textbooks!!
