Spotlight customer reviews:
Customer Rating: Summary: Great Printer!!! Comment: Very nice All-in-One printer for the money!! I have had it for about two years and have not had any problems. This printer is very ink hungry. The onboard ink level indicators will want you changing the ink before necessary (easy to overide). Customer Rating: Summary: Will never buy another canon product agian Comment: I have owned this printer approx. 18 months. I use it lightly for home use. It still has the original ink tanks. The other day it said I had a paper jam. There is no paper jam. Canon suggests that I either bring it to a repair center, ( I called they want around $100.00 ) or buy a new printer at a ten percent discount. HA HA HA HA HA
I would recommend staying away from canon products completely. Customer Rating: Summary: Bad Print Heads on this model Comment: I too own this printer and apparently there is a problem with the print head on this model. I have the same problem as many of you, it won't recognize the yellow cartridge. It only took about thirty days for this error to start popping up. I was going to get a new print head, but after reading everyone's review, I am just going to trash it and and accept it as a lesson learned.
For me, it is the end of the road for Canon. I was an HP person and someone talked me into this one. I am going back to HP. Customer Rating: Summary: AWFUL, DRIVES YOU NUTS! Comment: This started off great. Very good printing, very good scanning, lots of promise and well worth $300. Then it started not recognizing Canon's own ink tanks, which are expensive by the way. The orange error light came on more and more. Now it won't even recognize brand new Canon original, genuine ink tanks. What do they want? Canon? I mean, come on! I've Googled the error codes that I keep getting, and it's clear that I'm not the only one. Despite this printer getting lots of very positive reviews, please be careful. I'm not one for ranting, and this printer did a great job early on. But 6 months later, 50% of the time it was a problem printing anything. It would be, press print in Word/Paint/Web browser, and I'd watch the printer to see if it just printed, or gave me the finger (the orange light!) and decided that - all of a sudden - the Canon ink tanks I purchased at a hefty price weren'y "recognized". Sometimes it would give me a different error code and would start up again in Japanese!! I am getting an HP printer/scanner, and vow NEVER to buy Canon again. I hate it, it drives me absolutely nuts. And now I'm at my wits' end, I realize I'm 3 days over the warranty period, I'm ready to smash this up with a hammer!! Customer Rating: Summary: Worked great for a year and 4 days Comment: I bought the mp600 a little over a year ago and loved it. The picture quality was great, the scanner worked good, and the duplex printing was nice for printing off longer documents.
Unfortunately, 4 days after the one-year warranty expired, I was printing off a document and I had a paper jam. After following the printer instructions and clearing the jam, I got error 5010 with instructions to restart the printer. The printer turned off and won't restart. After following Canon's suggested troubleshooting steps, unplugging the printer, trying multiple outlets and confirming that the unit was receiving power, the unit still won't even turn on. Because the unit was 4 days outside of the warranty, Canon's customer service recommended I take it to a Canon repair facility. According to the repair facility, the problem is not repairable, so now I'm out the cost of the printer and the $60 the facility charged to look at the printer.
In the time I had the printer, I used it to print off less than half a ream of paper and around 50 photographs. I used less than than half of the original ink that came with the unit.
I'm very disappointed that with light use, a single paper jam was enough to turn the unit from a fully functional printer, copier, and scanner to a big, expensive paperweight that won't even power on.
