Summary: Montreux Jazz Festival
Comment: Classic Van Morrison. Montreux Switzerland is a good setting and watching Van Morrison and other work together is fascinating. I feel good about obtaining this DVD and look forward to watching it many times. Makes me appreciate Van Morrisons current efforts and when I attend a concert all the more.

Summary: Boring!
Comment: After watching Van's performance in "The Last Waltz" we were eager for this DVD. I'm a casual fan of his music and I just couldn't get into this - either 1980 or 1974. Van appears to be bored, almost sleepy, throughout most of his performances. He has a great voice but doesn't have the energy level to keep my interest. I own many music DVD's and I'm sorry to say this is not one we will watch again anytime soon. My personal favorite is U2 - Live from Boston and REM - Perfect Square. Also, just loved The Last Waltz - we got it as a freebie blue ray disk and it is classic.

Comment: 1980 is an amazing soul shaking show. New version of Tupelo honey is jaw dropping good. Most songs performed were inspired with Van being "ON". 27 years later you would be hard pressed to find anybody in music more innovative. Van uses his voice as an instrument on some songs better than ever. Love hearing Van put new twists on his classics. Can`t wait to watch for the third straight night tonight.

Summary: Best Popular Vocalist
Comment: In this double dvd package, Van Morrison proves he is THE if not one of the best POP Vocalists ever. He is magnificant. The band is also magnificant. I bought this dvd as a gift for someone, but couldn't resist. I played it and will keep it for myself and give a gift of second one.
I've seen a few reviews complaining that Van seems disinterested. Those people obviously don't know Van very well. He never connects well with audiances and often appears as he has had 2 or 3 scotches before the performance. Simply listen to the concert and you'll know it's incredible. I have a 1080 resolution TV and a 5.1 surround sound home theater system. I own many concert dvd's.... this is the best! I paid less than $15 for this package and it may be the best 15 bucks I've ever spent in my life.
Van's voice has deepened and aged over the years but this dvd is from '73 and '80 and the '80 set is basically the one I'm referring to in this review, although the '73 set is good.
Don't listen to the fools who don't like seeing van with his eyes closed... the man is a genious and clearly rivals Sam Cooke as the greatest rythm and blues singer of all time!

Comment: I recommend this DVD to any Van Morrison fan and to anyone for that matter. This shows the energy and talent that we all knew that he had.
