Spotlight customer reviews:
Customer Rating: Summary: Good capabilities, awful drivers and support Comment: I had my new Dell XPS I got a year ago installed with a 7900 GS. It runs great and the capabilities and performance of the card are very, very good even a year later. This should be a 5 star review then, huh?
Not quite. Unfortunately, a fraction of games on the market use techniques that work fine with everything but certain NVidia cards on Vista. I've run into particularly nasty problems with games such as FEAR and Sins of a Solar Empire. Now, there could be a chance that the developers messed something up here, but NVidia's poor customer support and habit of denying that issues exist pops up over and over again on their forums. I also see stories of NVidia dragging their feet when it comes to fixing these things and working with other development groups. Maybe their newer cards work better with these games on Vista, but I'd recommend you find another card that's known to work better across the board and give NVidia a chance to develop some better support policies. Customer Rating: Summary: A bargain at $99.99 Comment: I bought this card for $99.99 plus shipping here. For this price the performance to price ratio is unbeaten as far as mid-range cards go. I'm able to play Crysis in mid settings and 1024x768 witouth much lag. Other than crysis, most games will play at full settings except AA and ASFF smoothly and maybe at 20-25fps with them enabled lightly.
Upgrading from a Geforce 6600, this card was a great choice. overall, i'm happy with it and its performance.
The fan can get loud however when it is at full load, but considering that i have A/C in my room, i can't hear it with A/C is on. in a quiet environment though it is clearly loud.
The card also overclocks pretty well with the stock cooler. i was able to overclock to 550 / 781 Mhz (up from 450 / 660 respectively) without artifacts at all. anything higher may show some artifacts. Customer Rating: Summary: Great card Comment: I purchased the 7900GS with my new dell desktop at the beginning of March 2007, its now almost July... I have 2GB Ram, dual core processor. The card works better than I hoped. Company of Heroes on highest settings is smooth. Video editing, and all features of Vista Ultimate work great on my dual 1600X1200 monitors (one flipped vertical, one horizontal). Using Media Center to record/edit TV has made my TiVo seem like a sad waste of money... WOW also works great up to the highest graphics settings.
I highly recommend the card, despite some of the strange reviews I've read. Vista 32bit has no problems with it, and I'm dual booting with XP Pro which is also great with the card. Customer Rating: Summary: The best US$/quality Comment: Nice buy. I'm really satisfied. World of Warcraft at maximum resolution (1680x1050) and max quality and NO PROBLEM. It was my goal, I achieved this I'm satisfied. My machine: Core 2 Duo E6400, Asus P5N-E, 2Gb RAM (Corsair XMS2 800 MHz) and this videoboard. I didn't use DVI. Customer Rating: Summary: freezes with Vista Ultimate Comment: Forget this card with Vista Ultimate, especially for DreamScape, Areo. Scrambles and freezes, especially with Media Center. Great with XP, very poor Vista product, even with latest drivers.
