Editorial Reviews:

In Nancy Drew: The Creature Of Kapu Cave, Nancy travels to Hawaii as a research assistant for Dr. Quigley Kim to determine why the population of native caterpillars has exploded. The Hardy Boys, on a separate covert operation, are also visiting -- and both stumble across the mystery of the Hilihili research compound and its evil vibes. Some believe it's linked to the legend of Kane ?Okala. Local legend has it that a long time ago, a man was sacrificed to the hungry volcano to appease it. Kane ?Okala, or "the rough-skinned man," later escaped from the volcano, but he was scarred for life with a rough-skinned and frightening appearance. When Nancy arrives at Camp Quigley, she sees a monster ravaging the camp, and soon discovers that Dr. Quigley is missing! Could the monster she saw be Kane ?Okala? She'll have to team up with the Hardy Boys to find out!

Summary: Not the best...
Comment: I liked most of the activities and loved switching between the Hardy Boys and Nancy. The actual plot of the game was...lacking, I mean Nancy Drew going all the way to Hawaii to study BUGS? Thats a little much... The graphics were awesome and I loved going to the beach to gather shells and fish. One weird thing was when Nancy leaves the beach the sun is shining without a cloud in the sky but when she gets to the jungle the Hardy Boys call her up and say the bridge is out so she can't get back. How did it go out exactly? A freak rainstorm or what?
Collecting all the frass(bug droppings, yuck!) for Dr. Quigley was monotonous after the first few times. The ending was really weird and sort of dumb. Both mysteries were somehow connected but there were some red herrings thrown in and some things you had to do that didn't really matter in the end. Overall it was an average game with awesome graphics but disappointing storyline.

Summary: A good ND game
Comment: Replayed it twice so far. A good game. Only hard part was analyzing specimens. Guess that's what walkthroughs are for. LOL

Summary: Educative but not spell-binding
Comment: Nancy Drew, the young girl private detective, features nowadays in books, films, and games. The games, some of the best of their type, have been played recently by three generations of my family. They provide elements of adventure, detection, co-ordination skills, and problem solving. Individual choices and interests probably govern which games a user will prefer. One that has been played by various family members this year is No 15: "The Creature of Kapu Cave". The setting is Hawaii. Go for it, if you wish to spend an imaginative escape amongst lush vegetation. Anyone with an interest in botany will enjoy this one, but those who respond to the magic of story-telling and the lure of mystery will be disappointed.

Summary: What Happened?
Comment: I own and have played all of the Nancy Drew games prior to this one and loved them all! NOT THIS GAME! What did happen? This game not very good! It lacks puzzles, story, and fun. I was really excited by the interesting storyline presented on the box, but it certainly wasn't a very big part of the game! Enough ranting, here is my review.

Plot- D+ What plot? I never really figured out the plot. There is no creature, so don't get your hopes up there!

Graphics- A++ The fact that the graphics were beautiful was the only reason I gave this game 3 stars. From the waves lapping the beach, to the lush forests, the graphics were incredible! A++++++++++ (This is practically the only good thing I have to say about the game, but it was great!)

Puzzles- C+ There were very few puzzles to actually solve, and you spent most of your time sorting... frass. Frass, in case you don't know, is a fancy way to say insect poop. Lovely. My dream way to spend a few hours! Oh, and you get to study it under a microscope! Aren't you excited already!

Ending- B This game took me about six hours to solve total. Then it ended very abruptly. It was a very, very, very, very short game. There were only four characters in the game, and two of them were involved in the crime. How can you be surprised when they reveal the culprit!

Content A++++ The only other good thing about the game besides the graphics is that (unless sorting frass for hours would somehow be against your principles) it is clean for everyone. No language, no violence.

Overall- C Don't waste your money on this game unless you are a die hard fan of the Nancy Drew games like myself. At least then you can tell yourself that you are being loyal to the games that you used to love. I do still love the old games!
