Customer Rating: Summary: Product does not do what it was sold to do Comment: I purchased the Life Chat zx-6000 to use on my laptop with Skype. hrrm first challenge and not yet resolved is getting Skype to recognise it as a microphone/headset so I cannot use this piece of widgetry. Well I could if I wanted to use it with Messenger but I dont. Microsoft help won't help because I want to use it with Skype so I sit here and wave goodbye to A$90. Not happy. Has anyone succeeded in making this work? if so how did you do it? :(
Customer Rating: Summary: AVOID! Comment: I think this product would be great if I could get it to work. Unfortunately, it didn't First of all, the microphone is terrible. I tried to use sound recorder program to see if I could get good qualify sound but it was very low and there was background noise.
I don't recommend this product to anyone. I wasted my time and money.
Customer Rating: Summary: tough to setup and disconnects easily Comment: This was tough to get to work the first time. There are no instructions and it disconnects frequently. This was frustrating.
Still not sure what all the little lights are. They say it is for battery life and signal strength but I am not sure which is which and how I am supposed to see it when it is pressed against my cheek.
THis is a great product idea but not ready for regular use. I would not recommend it to anyone.
Customer Rating: Summary: Multiple ZX-6000's Terrible Quality! Comment: I bought the ZX-6000 to record sound during webcam based videos. This device is functionally terrible. (BTW, the Microsoft Lifechat Camera/Mic is pretty good.)
The device looks good, has a low profile, and fits on the ear pretty well (there are two sized of ear rings. It is light enough that it should be comfortable to wear for long periods of time - except I will never use it long enough to test that theory. Both the microphone and the speaker are abysmal.
OK, so how can I be objective about this. First, I called Microsoft, tried the device on two different PC's, waited for them to subsequently send a replacement, and then experienced the same poor quality. Two devices, one bought from Staples and the second direct from Microsoft, are likely from different manufacturing lots and both have the same issues.
Here are the issues:
1. The microphone doesn't appear to have enough gain to work well with the simplest of programs, the default "Sound Recorder" that comes with windows. Yes, I can record, no, it isn't a volume controls or advanced settings problem. It just doesn't output enough of a signal.
2. The earpiece speaker, while silent as it should be when nothing is going on, has strongly distorted sound whenever ANY wav or other sound comes from the PC. Something as simple as clicking on the Windows toolbar's speaker and adjusting the volume (which generates a 'ping' sound when released) sounds TERRIBLE through the earpiece. The best way to describe it is that sound contains electronic distortion that resembles an undersampled signal.
Two earpieces down, tested over two different types of pc's. Why did Mirosoft release this product? The quality isn't even close to acceptable.
Customer Rating: Summary: Made my life easier. really. Comment: Amazing gadget! I've never written a review in my life but this headset really has won it ... big time so. However, it maybe not be perfect for a teenager who is intrested in gaming or MP3 listening. IT IS A CHATTING TOOL and it serves itss purpose PERFECTLY.
