With the Belkin Easy Transfer Cable, upgrading to a new computer has never been easier. It offers a quick way to transfer your files and settings from your old computer to a new one. Just install the software provided on the enclosed CD onto your computer. Then, connect each end of the cable to the USB ports on both computers. The Windows Easy Transfer wizard automatically appears and lets you select items to copy. With just a couple of clicks, you can transfer your photos, music, settings, etc.

I cannot say much as my usb slot in my old computer failed, but whenever it reposnded the cable worked well
there are however other cables(much cheaper) from Belkin to aid in transferring files from old XP computer to new Vista or xp or other compatable OS

Comment: The cable works fine - the software that comes with it (which is required) does not. It took me five calls to customer support before I could get to level 3, They fixed my problem in 15 minutes. But it took me a week to get to them!
Once they set up my system properly, the cable worked perfectly and very quickly.

Comment: This product was supposed to make it very easy to transfer files to a new Vista computer from one running XP. It failed totally--it started gathering information and then froze. Several attempts with the same result. Resorted to a FLASH drive and moved on. Total waste of money.

Comment: I bought a new laptop and was trying to move a lot of things from my old computer. Finally, I bought the Easy Transfer cable and moved every thing in a couple of hours. It would have been better to start out with the Easy Transfer cable, as it complicates the process when some things are already moved...Anyways, the cable worked fine for moving things from my old XP computer to a new Vista computer. You need to take time in carefully selecting what you want move and be patient to be sure the process is fully completed.The speed of the transfer itself was very fast.
I did not have any of the problems mentioned in some of the reviews. My only "problem" was that I ended up moving a few things I had not intended to move. I would recommend the cable to anyone who needs to move a lot of material.

Comment: Think twice about buying this. I just bought the cable from the store, and now that I've read about it I'm going to return it unopened.
The reason I rate it as two stars is because you can no longer transfer applications. You could do it before, using something called the "Easy Transfer Companion" that came out sometime around last year. This was a feature you could download from Microsoft that allowed you to transfer programs, not just files.
At some point within the past year or so, Microsoft discontinued the "easy transfer companion." Do a search...you won't find it on the Microsoft webpage anymore. The official reason is that it is incompatible with Service Pack 1 for Vista. Who knows what the real reason is; there are probably several.
This is a bad deal for Belkin and a bunch of customers out there who will waste time buying this and searching for that Easy Transfer Companion. And from reading the other reviews, I am not going to waste my time with all the quirks of transferring even just regular files!
