The province of Munster is comprised of 6 counties: Clare, Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Tipperary, and Waterford. The Munster selection is drawn from local clubs like Shannon, Cork Constitution, Garryowen, and Young Munster. These clubs battle it out in the All Ireland League competition. In 2003 the Munster crest was revamped to include a stag's head (an animal associated with Munster folklore as far back as the 11th century). Said to be an aggressive and competitive animal, the stag represents very well the spirit of Munster rugby. The rise of Munster rugby over the past few years has resulted in the rising of huge amounts of supporters from all around Europe. This dynamism has contributed to giving a major boost to Irish rugby. In 1998/99 and for the first time in years Munster made it out of the pool stages to reach the European Cup quarter final.
