Customer Rating: Summary: Excellent in design and very strong. Great Add-ON!!! Comment: Read the reviews before purchasing locally. My friend also has one which he let me use for a day, before I bought it. He, like most people have smaller laptops and it works excellent. I have a behemoth Alienware 17" Area 51 M9750 weighing in at close to 9 lbs. Of course the Alto matches my rubberized stealth AW, so I wanted it. I only worried about the stability. People said it was flimsy, just not true, it is all in how they use it. I purchased this for my work desk and occasional trips. I also purchased another for my home desk. On a flat surface, it is extremely stabile, there are no computers falling down and I shook my 9 lb beast it is strong. I bought it, knowing before hand, I would lose use of my front loading dvd on my aw, but for the times I need it, I will lift it slightly until it is in. I also knew that unfortunately, because my computer is so heavy, I cannot use the keyboard riser. I will not take a star away for this as 90% of the people buying it, including my buddy use it with no problem. I knew all this and still bought it. I have plenty of USB, so whether it powers my ipod or electric devices is not a concern of mine. It simply looks gorgeous, brings my computer to an eye level height on my desk, I exclusively use a Logitech Nano at all times, I detest using the touchpad for a lot of working. It works fine, if you use it like I do, if you toss it all over the place, back and forth, it may be less stabile, but I do not and the stability is excellent. I highly reccomend this and the Logitech Nano. Hope the review helps others to make their decision, I read the reviews all the time.
Customer Rating: Summary: Unreal Comment: Just bought it. Like all Logitech quality products, this is wonderful. I also own the DiNovo Edge keyboard and I am shocked -- this keyboard is close to the same size, very comfortable, silent, and beats any Microsoft keyboard out there (now and I'm sure in the future). The stand is configurable and I use it for my Wacom tablet instead of a laptop. So, I use this for a desktop system.
The USB ports make this the deal of the year. Thanks, Logitech!
Customer Rating: Summary: l;ogitech notebook stand Comment: This product will not work with front audio/microphone plug-ins without modifications.I returned this unit and purchased the Alto Notebook with the "wireless keyboard".
Drilled a small hole for audio plug-in and all is well.
Very pleased but there are other stands available with an opening
slot for the plug-ins however this unit appearance is top notch - simple mod and I believe you would be totally pleased !!
Customer Rating: Summary: Logitech Alto Notebook Comment: This is a wonderful product: easy to set up and works well with my 17" laptop. HOWEVER, I only give it 4 stars as one MUST purchase an external mouse and wrist support. The positioning of the laptop on the notebook stand simply prohibits the functional usage of embedded touchpad. Additionally, the angle of the laptop on the stand necessitates the use of a wrist support.
Those points not withstanding, the unit is light, structurally sound, and optimizes the use of the laptop keyboard. The Alto keyboard is exceptionally lively, far exceeding the touchability of the laptop; typing becomes so much easier! With Amazon's great price and delivery, this is a must buy for laptop owners. Just make sure a USB mouse and wrist support is also purchased.
Customer Rating: Summary: Started out great but fizzled Comment: I bought this after reading reviews on other stands/keyboards and really liked the design and functionality of a one-piece unit with USB ports.
PROS: 1) Typing on the keyboard was quiet and the keys depressed smooth and easy 2) Notebook is raised to a nice eye level 3) Nice integrated keyboard design
Cons: 1) After about 9 months of usage, however, the keyboard no longer functions as it used to. The keyboard started to become noisy while typing and the keys are not as smooth and responsive as when new. 2) The stand that holds the laptop is just okay. I have a Thinkpad and it slides down a little and eventually rests more by the keyboard than on the stand's rail or end guards. 3) While the USB ports are handy, there isn't a power adapter included so you can't use it for devices that need more power such an external portable HD.
Bottom line: I gave this a two star because of the keyboard's decline in quality and non-powered USB ports. I'd recommend using another Logitech keyboard such as their diNovo keyboard (which I use with my desktop) that is much better but more expensive. I've decided to look around again just for a separate stand to use with a separate keyboard that can be easily changed.
