Summary: everything old is new again
Comment: basically it's 60's-70's retro soul made more contemporary by adding rappers and hip hop beats...i heard joss' the soul sessions album back a few years ago...i thought joss could sing, but i figured she was just an r and b version of mandy moore: joss would be destined to be a mid-tier soul singer, who would sell enough records to just keep making records ...and it's a damn shame, because joss has the talent to really have a breakout album...raphael saddiq from tony toni tone, produced this and as you well know, 3-T knew a thing or two about good r and b...girl she won't believe it, is hot...headturner made me think of that picture of joss inside the cd case...the song lives up to its name....tell me what we're gonna do now is the radio hit with common and i love both of them on this song....music i skipped on purpose, not because i didn't like it, but because i thought lauryn hill was a hypocrite for making a song with joss...10 years ago when l boogie's record was doing good, she said that she would rather see babies die than have white people buy her records...i guess lauryn changed her mind....better for blacks and whites to have a love/hate relationship then no relationship at all, i guess...baby baby baby is a good song to get it on by....i put off listening to this for the longest until i finally broke down and did it....joss was worth it....

Summary: a little too slick
Comment: I have every sound recording Joss Stone has ever released as far as I know, including special iTunes and AOL sessions, her Christmas single, tracks with other artists such as Santana and all three of her full length albums. I'm a big fan. However, I'm not such a big fan of this album. The production is just a little too slick. There are too many tracks with strings... and it's obvious they are programmed, not real. This album just lacks the raw R&B power of her first two full length albums, and frequently it feels to me like she is trying to sing pop music... not R&B. Stone chose the kind of music she wanted to sing, R&B, rather than letting sound moguls trap her into pop star fame. They'd be best advised to let her sing true R&B and not gloss it up too much. It doesn't work very well.
