Editorial Reviews:

The Kitchen Crop Sprouter is the easy way to produce fresh, high-quality sprouts in your own kitchen. In just 2-4 days enjoy healthful sprouts in soups, salads and sandwiches. Grow up to three different flavors at once. The Kitchen Crop sprouter makes sprouting fast, easy and fun. It produces a variety of fresh, crispy sprouts in just a few easy steps. First, pour seeds into the trays. Next add water. Exclusive siphon action distributes just the right amount. In 2 to 4 days you'll harvest a bumper crop. The Kitchen Crop sprouter is reusable so you can grow nutritious sprouts year round. Spread out the seeds evenly in the tray (about 1 tablespoon will produce a tray full of sprouts). The quantity of seeds used depends upon your individual requirements. The seeds will expand tremendously when wetted and will occupy approximately four times their initial volume. The water from the cover will flow down automatically from one tray to the next, thanks to the action of the siphon in each tray. At the end of the siphoning process, excess water will collect in the base. Empty the base when top trays are completely drained or before next watering. Depending upon the temperature and the type of seeds being grown, the sprouts should be edible in 2-5 days. If fresh sprouts are not to be consumed the day they are picked, they can be kept for a few days in the refrigerator. Rinse sprouts well under running water before eating. It's Easy: Add seeds. Add water. Enjoy Sprouts!

Summary: Great product with a lot of flexibility
Comment: I've been using this spouter for close to 9 years and continue to be very happy with it. The three tray design allows a great deal of flexibility. You can grow three different types of sprouts, rotate your crops so you have a fresh crop every couple of days, or fill all three trays with your favorite variety.

Rarely do I have seeds or roots clogging the drains as long as the drain caps are put on tightly before adding seeds. I'm sure every sprouter has one or two drawbacks but this one has been long lasting and nothing I have experienced will keep me from giving it less than 5 stars.

Summary: Works well with a few caveats
Comment: I've had this sprouter for years. The idea sounds logical: pour water in the top tray, and it will percolate through the lower trays into the bottom. However, this has never worked properly in my experience. The plastic flanges that go on the holes of each tray would have to be perfectly placed for this to occur. Even if drainage did happen, after a couple of days the roots would block or push the flange so that the water could not drain. As another reviewer mentioned, puddled/undrained water has the potential to cause mold or rot.

My solution was simply to toss the flanges, place the seeds on the trays and mist with water a few times a day. Works perfectly.

Why purchase this instead of just using a mason jar (the cheap/free alternative)? I like the ability to grow different types of sprouts on each layer, and they grow in a nice "mat" similar to store-bought.

I would recommend. Not something I use every day, but is attractive and durable.

Summary: great gift for kids
Comment: I gave one to some kids I spend a lot of time with. I also gave them some sprouting seeds to go with it. They LOVE it. It's so easy to use. And it teaches kids how to take care of something because they have to run water through it twice a day. And I had one about ten or twelve years ago, I loved being able to grow my own sprouts. For a good children's gift I would suggest giving three kinds of sprouting seeds, one for each level.

Summary: Kitchen Sprouter
Comment: I love my new kitchen seed sprouter. We are always trying to improve the quality of the foods we take in. Recently seed sprouts have been introduced to us as "highly nutritional" and easy to grow using home sprouters. I feel better about using my home sprouter because I can control the quality of water and cleanliness in which they are grown. It takes only about 3 days to grow them, and it's fun to watch them change each day. My 2-year old grandaughter also thinks it's fun to watch them grow. We've added them to our salads and sandwiches & they are very tasty and delightful. Our friends have also received some of our "bounty" from the seeds grown & also enjoy them. I would recommend anyone who is interested in nutrition and EZ things to add to the diet that they buy this great product.

Summary: Cheap lid tears, the containers crack
Comment: This is a cheaply made sprouter. The lid disintegrated after less than a year's use; and the little flanges inside the containers get clogged regularly. There are much better designs out there!
