Customer Rating: Summary: Yet another winner Comment: This is the second Brother printer that I've owned. The other is a few years old, an HL-5170DN with much the same featureset.
I haven't put the HL-5250DN through all that much, but I have been printing like crazy. I'm required to read a lot of technical papers, and they're much easier to read on paper than screen. I've printed hundreds of pages, almost all duplexed, and *one* has come out wrong, and that's because I tried to print a PDF inside a browser using the browser's print dialog rather than the Acrobat plugin's print dialog. Excluding that one mistake on my part, everything has come out quickly and perfectly.
For anyone wanting a printer, I highly suggest going with a Brother laser printer. They're nicely priced (especially if you can find one refurbished) and very reliable.
Customer Rating: Summary: Simple to set up, pleasant to use Comment: What I liked best is that this was trivial to set up. Put in the toner cartridge, and connect to the network, and hit add printer on my OS X 10.5.5 box. Ignore all the driver disks, etc., it just works.
I use this primarily for text. The text is great. One other review commented on banding of photos, and I do see some of that. So not recommended if your primary use is photo printing. But if you just want an easy to use, fast, duplexing printer for text, this is it.
Customer Rating: Summary: Very happy with this printer Comment: If you just want your printing to be done really fast, save trees by printing on both sides of the paper, and not have to bother with constant cartidge replacement, this is it. I have two, one new, one refurbished. The refurbished one does make loud clicking noises, but it does not affect performance. The toner cartridge lasts a very long time -a year for me, with 100+ pages of daily printing. Costco shipped replacement cartridges for free, and they came with postage-paid recycling envelopes.
Best all-around, don't-have-to-think-about-it workhorse. This is a no-brainer, for the money.
Customer Rating: Summary: wonderful printer Comment: This printer works exactly as advertised, and (refurbished) is a great price. Setting it up on my home network was very easy: I just plugged it in, printed out a status page with network info and I was up and running.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great printer for home use Comment: I've had this printer for several months now and it works well. The printer replaced an aging HP LaserJet 2100. I use it on a home network and enjoy the instant access from all computers (both Macs and PCs). Quality, speed and duplex printing are terrific. Setup was a breeze on both PC and Mac. I downloaded the latest PC drivers from Brother's website.
I recently printed 200 A5 sized baby announcement cards and envelopes using the printer and they turned out great. There are two levers inside the rear door that can be flipped up when printing on thick paper and envelopes. Envelopes print with no problems when this change is made--something I just couldn't do without crinkling and bonding with the old HP.
The initial value is terrific and supplies are very competitively priced, although I haven't had to replace the toner or drum yet.
