Customer Rating: Summary: Good value Comment: This was my inexpensive choice to replace a failed video card in my four year old dell xps computer.
It has accomplished that and I actually think flight simulator now works better than it used to.
The installation was extremely easy except for a power cord issue. My computer had loads of available spare power cords, but none the size required for this card. So I just pirated the one that supplied the floppy disc drive...that's the size that's needed... and it works great.
I'm self taught and not advanced at computers, but I do have the inclination to give it a go and the sense to know when I'm getting over my head. This was straightforward and easy. You should uninstall the old card's software before installing this.
I think this card offers good value.
Customer Rating: Summary: Pure Junk Comment: Within 10 minutes of installing, it crashed my computer twice. This was an "upgrade" of an ATI9800 Pro which has given me zero problems. Uninstalled and shipped back the next day.
Customer Rating: Summary: Worst Video Card I Ever Owned Comment: I had previously given this card a bad review, until I RMA'd it and received a replacement. It turns out the first card I got had a faulty fan and other faulty parts. The replacement card worked pretty good so far, but it's only been 1 day, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
Seems to me these shipments contain some good and bad apples. They're probably a batch of refurbished items from the manufacturer or the manufacturer just have really bad quality control.
To be fair, it works pretty good when it's working. Windows performance is decent, but Radeon cards don't do well with Linux especially compiz. I have both XP and Ubuntu 7.10 installed.
Compiz 3D is O.K. (not great) but what really kills it is 2D performance seems to be broken with all ATI drivers for Linux. Firefox has scrolling problems under Ubuntu + compiz with this card installed, whereas my previous card NVIDIA FX5600 had no problems whatsoever under linux ubuntu compiz.
I'm going to keep this card hoping that
1. it doesnt die on me any time soon
2. ATI comes up with better drivers for Linxu so I can run compiz like on NVIDIA cards.
Thanks for your inputs.
Customer Rating: Summary: Wonderful Video Card ! Comment: I still have a AGP computer and I wanted to update my video card. I never had a Radeon type video card before, so I thought I would try one. I couldn,t be more pleased. This is an excellent video card ! I definitely think if you were looking at this card, Buy it! I had no problems installing this card. Excellent ! Thank You!
Customer Rating: Summary: price vs quality Comment: The first one I got kept killing my computer. I went thru all kinds of S#&* trying to get it to work. Turned out I was not too dumb but that the card was defective. Support was very good and attentive to my problems with the card. amazon worked well to fix the problem (just sent me a new one.) The new one is every bit as good as the one my friend has that cost four times as much
