Editorial Reviews:

Comes now with the new Mac OS 10.5 Leopard with over 300 new features, such as a stunning new look to the desktop, new ways to browse thorough your files with Cover Flow, Quick Look, Time Machine and many more. The most advanced and affordable Mac notebook ever gives you a blazingly fast mobile architecture in a beautiful design that costs less than slower, clunkier models. It's like getting a sports car for the price of a scooter. MacBook is powered by an Intel Core 2 Duo processor with a performance-enhancing 4MB of shared L2 cache. MacBook keeps you untethered courtesy of built-in Bluetooth and AirPort Extreme 802.11n Wi-Fi wireless. Thrill to a high-res 13.3" widescreen TFT LCD screen for text and graphics. See that little lens in the display bezel? That's the built-in iSight camera. Use it to video chat simply by opening iChat AV and clicking a buddy icon (or three). Or fire up Photo Booth and take a few snapshots with the iSight, play around with 16 fun effects, then admire your handiwork. That little camera lets you create web-ready videos, too. Just open up iMovie and start the action. From there, iWeb makes it one-click easy to get your talking head on the web. 13.3 Glossy WXGA (1280 x 800) Display Built-in iSight Camera and internal omnidirectional microphone Intel GMA X3100 graphics processor with 144MB of DDR2 SDRAM shared with main memory 8X Slot-loading SuperDrive (DVD+-R DL/DVD+-RW/CD-RW) Built-in AirPort Extreme Wi-Fi wireless networking (802.11a/b/g/n) Built-in Bluetooth 2.0+EDR Built-in 10/100/1000BASE-T Gigabit Ethernet (RJ-45 connector) 2 USB 2.0, 1 Headphone out; 1 Microphone-in, mini-DVI output port, 1 FireWire 400, 1 RJ-45 LAN Approximate Unit Dimensions - 12.78 (W) x 1.08 (H) x 8.92 (D) Approximate Unit Weight - 5 lbs

Comment: For MAC newbies

I can't review the specs of the machine I will leave it to the experts but I will discuss what happened after my MAC broke down.

The experience:

My computer started to act up I tried to troubleshoot the problem on apple.com. After a few days of the "self IT help", I took it to the Apple store during lunch. I was asked if I had an appointment. I was told to take it to another Apple store they were too busy. Finally with some understanding that my $1,500 computer had problems and that it didn't matter if it was at home or at the store for a week they let me drop it off. A Genius tech was able to put in a test part until replacement parts came into the Apple store. Note: on the form that you sign a potential $100 charge may apply to your service.

The appointment:

They got the parts in and I made an appointment. An appointment doesn't mean immediate help but possibly around your appointed time on a shared basis with another person that has an appointment too for the IPhone or IPOD. Translation more waiting time.

As a user my preference:

Let me know that as a Genius you may delete something that I did not save. I lost my favorites on Safari. Fortunately, I was able to figure out that if I go to my trash I will find the bookmark.plist file and restore my bookmarks.

Apple store please let me tell you my computer problems and fix it having the choice to leave it over your preference of me making an appointment.

Scratching my head over Apple's strategy:

They have the sales strategy down to a science, but the backend support needs an overhaul. Why do they think it is value added to have the potential new customers of their products stand and wait with people having problems. From my experience at lunch time and during the evening the wait could be long and frustrating.

Final- As a PC user interfacing with the MAC is great.

Summary: nice package, but very unreliable
Comment: I thought I'd try the alternative to Windows machines, and it's been a big disappointment. While the MacBook is sleek and sexy, it's also extremely unreliable; the operating system crashes at least every day. Apple pumps out OS updates on a regular basis, but nothing has improved this crash-prone white elephant. It crashes much more frequently than my recent Windows machines, which says a lot, since Windows is none too trustworthy.

That said, I like the physical layout, the size & weight, and the Mac applications. If only they worked all the time--or even more of the time, I'd say they have a superior product. But, unhappily, it just ain't so.

Summary: more than happy!
Comment: Although I bought this Mac as "refurbished", I can't find any problem with it. Delivered on time and the notebook is in excelent conditions!! Would recommend it to any one.

Summary: I loved it the first 6 months... and then...
Comment: I bought my macbook in Europe, where the price was more than one bought in the states, about $400 more. I had been a Windows user and got tired of all of Windows' Windowsness. I got my beautiful MacBook in pearly white and had a great time with the programs. No crashes! Then three months passed, of which the macbook did nothing but sit on my desk, and part of the casing chipped off. I took it in to be fixed. One month later, ANOTHER part of the casing chipped off. I had that fixed. The casing REGULARLY chips off. It now looks like an old hand me down laptop that has been banged up by trolls and it has not left my office.

Six months after purchase, it overheats. I mean overheats in one hour of use. I can no longer use it as a laptop without worrying about setting something on fire.

One year later (right now) it is propped up on blocks (coolers) with the ENTIRE casing that goes under the wrist chipped away, another piece of casing in the upper right corner chipped away and I am frantically backing up everything so that when my whole laptop dies in the next 20 minutes as I expect it to, I won't lose everything.

Basically, I believe Apple makes great ideas, put inside cheap pieces of crap.

I HATE going back to Windows, but it seems I must.
