Latest on the agenda is the Motorola SBV5220, a combination modem and phone adapter, equipped with an integrated Lithium-ion battery back-up, providing up to eight hours of battery back-up in the event of a power outage in the home. Comcast wants to make sure that you dont go calling bitching around when the power goes out and your VoIP phone doesnt work. Customer Rating: Summary: Great modem Comment: Great modem. Ive had it about 1 year now and havent had 1 problem with it yet. Customer Rating: Summary: Free from Cox Comment: I've had this modem for about a month now. It's just as good as the other Motorola modem (SB5101) I bought earlier this year from Walmart which was less than $60. The biggest difference is this one is almost twice the size as the SB5101 because of its battery backup and its a lot heavier too. Anyway I moved and got a package deal from Cox that included tv, internet and phone service so they threw in this modem as part of the deal. Of course I don't get to keep if I end my service but who cares? Great product and a great deal from Cox. Customer Rating: Summary: Comcast does not allow you to use it with Digital voice Comment: I purchased one of these modems and Comcast would not allow me to use it with their digital voice service. I filed a complaint with the better business bureau, but again was told by the vice president of the digital voice division that it cannot be used even though they installed the same modem for me to use their service.
Comcast is working with Motorola to come out with self install kits so you cannot use your own EMTA unit until that process is completed.
