Summary: Great Little Unit!
Comment: The Zoom H2 Handy Portable Stereo Recorder is one of those wonderful products that bely their cost and perform at a higher level. On the 3rd day of my ownership a fellow musician friend did a guitar/singing solo act at a small chicago nightclub, where the H2 was put to its first test. It recorded his performance flawlessly, and picked up everything that hit its microphones with clarity. I took pictures and burned him a CD complete with cover graphics, text, etc. the next day! He now has a very professional sounding and looking live album from the event thanks to the H2.
My band rehersals have been recorded in the Automatic Gain mode and in the Limiter 2 mode. The AGC1 mode sounds best to me. The recordings are posted on a site for the band members to hear and download as they'd like. The band has been enthusiastic about the sound quality, and are even sending persons who are interested in the band for various reasons to the site to hear the recordings in promoting the band.
We now record all our practices, and The quality is good enough that when we capture enough perfectly-performed tunes we'll use the CD-quality recordings made by the H2 and get a very live-sounding CD out on the street.
I am using a 16 Gig SD card in my H2, which gives me over 25 hours of recording time, so there is no worry about running out of space. We just leave it on for the full rehearsal and forget about it!
Another trick with H2 uses it's ability to connect to a computer (it works like an external drive with the ability to exchange files into and out if it), I have a few hundred of my favorite MP3 songs loaded into one of the H2's file folders. With the earphones I use it like an iPod!
All in all it has many menu options, is flexible and works well. Why pay more for other digital hand-held recorders when this one does it all for a fraction of the cost?

Comment: A fellow musician brought a Zoom H4 to our gig, and effortlessly recorded the session. The results, to my ear, were amazing, prompting further research for applicability to a solo piano venue. The performance specifications for the Zoom H2 seemed to fulfill the proposed use criteria. Results from a month of use have far exceeded my expectations.

Summary: Great sound recorder
Comment: The Zoom H2 produces excellent sound quality. I really like the functionality it has in connection with editing a sound clip. Don't worry about trying to start and stop the recorder precisely at the beginning and end of an event -- just turn it on and let it go. The H2 lets you divide a clip so you can easily eliminate the parts you don't want. It also allows you to convert easily to mp3 format. Renaming clips in the recorder is a bit cumbersome, but you can avoid this by connecting to your pc via the supplied usb cable and rename the files using the keyboard on the pc. If you also purchase and 8gb SD memory card, you can record over 12 hours.

Summary: Excellent recorder at a decent price!
Comment: I was in the market for an R09 and stumbled upon the ZoomH2. After reading a few reviews and vising the products website I was sold. At half the price of the R09 how could I not try it out. I tried it out by recording a friends band in a small venue. I wanted to see just how well the internal mics worked. The recording turned out very good! I was shocked at how well the ZoomH2 did on its own. Then (luckily within the first 30 days of owning the product) I tried using the line-in jack with a set of my usual recording mics/batt box. To my surprise only the left channel would record. So at first I figured something in my setup had gone bad. So I tried another rig, same thing. I then tried hooking up a 3.5mm to RCA (Y-Adapter) to my stereo and again only left channel. So I had gotten a defective item right out of the box. I had first contacted the ZoomH2 support. They gave me some odd quote of parts + $27.50hr labor. I then contacted amazon who sent me a replacement overnight and paid for the return package! Now that was customer service. I have since checked the new one I got and it works perfectly! I am planning on recording another couple bands on Jan 30th so we will put it to the test again. As of now I am very satisfied with my purchase and would buy another any day!

Summary: family recordings and interviews
Comment: I bought this for making family recordings.I think the grand kids open up more to this than a video camera. Easy to use if you study the directions.The recordings sound excellent. The price was great. Something like this would have been on my wish list forever because i really wanted the Sony.This has been a lot of fun i have made a lot of great recordings just make sure you have reading glass while you use it.
