Customer Rating: Summary: Piece of Junk Comment: If I can, I give -5 to this piece of junk. This is my worst purchase of the year. Just don't work. I just do the long list that Iomega recomend and nothing. This is my first and last time that bought an Iomega product.
Customer Rating: Summary: Solid and Sleek Comment: The eGo 250GB USB Hard disk is a solid little unit. The Cherry version is sleek and attractive. I have 3 of these now, and performance has been flawless.
Pros: Solid reliable performance, rugged, fast, attractive, gets power from USB cable, affordable
Cons: Activity LED indicator is recessed and difficult to see.
Customer Rating: Summary: Very Solid Portable Drive Comment: I bought the eGo to back up my Powerbook. It is very solidly-built; light, but it simply feels well-built. It is a bit bigger than some portable drives, but it seems like the extra mass is to protect the internal workings. Operation is very quiet and smooth. I got the Firewire version, so I would be able to boot my Mac from it if I needed. Iomega includes both a firewire cable, and a dual (power and data y-split) USB cable. I had no problems powering the unit off of just Firewire, but plugged both the firewire cable and the USB cable in at the same time. It worked great, using the firewire as the data cable. I used Apple's Hard Drive Utility to format it for my Mac before I started, and it went along flawlessly. Hard drives, themselves (minus the enclosures), are hit and miss at times when it comes to reliability, but this one feels good and reliable to me. No problems at all yet.
Also, I had very speedy, no-nonsense delivery from J&R Music.
Customer Rating: Summary: A solid product, but... Comment: ...strangely, it takes an unusually long time to eject off my desktop. I have a MacBook Pro using Leopard, and when I try to eject the drive, it sits there on the desktop for up to 90 seconds before disappearing. On a PC, it doesn't take that long, but still looks like it's having a bit of a delayed reaction to the eject command. Don't get me wrong: the drive writes and reads as quickly as I could want. Just wish I could make it go away (when I must) as quickly as other drives I own.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great little drive! Comment: This is a great little hard drive. It's a little bigger physically than some, but performance is on par and nothing comes close in style. I do wish it came with a carrying case like my LaCie portable did though. Every portable drive should include one.
