Customer Rating: Summary: Great for PS3 Comment: I use this as an external HDD for my PS3. It works great. Since it comes FAT32 preformatted, it connects flawlessly to the PS3 as well as my laptop.
Its been 5 months since I bought it and its been awesome so far.
Customer Rating: Summary: GigaValue Comment: I'm old school when an 80 meg hard drive was considered enormous. I can remember paying $200 for 4 meg of memory! 500 gig for under a hundred bucks. Plug into the usb drive and works like a charm. Amazing!
Customer Rating: Summary: Doesn't meet my expectations. Comment: This is only my second external drive; my first was also a LaCie. I was pleased with my first drive, but I am already disappointed by this new one's features. It has two panels on the front and the back made to look like polished aluminum, but, in your hands, looks obviously like plastic. Also, you would think and on/off switch would be an obvious inclusion, but this drive doesn't have one. And finally, there is no CD inside the package. Instead, all the files are located inside the drive, even installation files. Although I don't need the installation files, I have to wonder what good are installation files when I have to have the drive installed to view them.
Customer Rating: Summary: Stopped working after 8 months Comment: It was used as a repository to store movies with a Mac Mini. Stopped working after 8 months. Keeps making hickup noises and the drive will now not mount. I have another and now I'm waiting for that one to go...
Customer Rating: Summary: Great hard disk for backups, etc. Comment: In my opinion, the LaCie 301285U works perfect: I use it to make daily/weekly backups of my web design works and haven't had any problem until now. Works smoothly with NAS's and although it's not the best option to carry it when you are traveling etc (not very small and heavy in my personal opinion), it's a perfect solution for keeping your important stuff safe.
Only thing I don't like at all is that sometimes it has a little but noticeable noise inside, like when those old HDD's on computers were installing software etc..
