AutoPilot is a sleek, low profile power adapter and iPod controller that plugs into the cigarette lighter or power socket in your dashboard or console. AutoPilot's illuminated knob gives you controls for Play/Pause and Track Forward/Backward. You get tactile feedback that lets you keep your eyes on the road. It's the perfect complement for iPod touch or any iPod while driving. You never have to glance down or touch the face of your iPod. AutoPilot uses a line-level output jack to send the best possible sound from your iPod to your car stereos equipped with Auxiliary-In jacks.

Customer Rating: Summary: GREAT ITEM ALL AROUND Comment: This is a remarkable quality item. Well designed, works perfectly with MY APPLE IPHONE 3G... Yes you heard it right... Highly recommended...
Customer Rating: Summary: charges and plays ipod in car! Comment: This is pretty much the only thing I found that will play the ipod in my car through the auxiliary port, and charge it at the same time, all in one unit at a reasonable price. Decent sound quality, probably not top-notch but I don't have a top-notch stereo anyway - way better than the Monster FM tuner I used to use.
Another plus, the cords are not too long like on some products. Controls on unit work OK, but I mostly still just use the ones on my ipod nano. Everything plugged right into my car's aux and power ports and worked without problem.
Customer Rating: Summary: Pretty much the best car accessory for the iphone in existence. Comment: I would've given this five stars except it's not technically supported so it doesn't get a perfect rating.
As the other reviewers have mentioned, this plug is compatible with both the first generation and second generation iphones. Since the phone locks itself after a short period of time, it's a pain to skip songs. This device allows you to do so without unlocking the phone and it also charges things up. It works with any 1/8" miniplug output: aux inputs on your car stereo, tape adapters, etc. As long as your lighter plug is somewhere convenient, I can't see this being a bad purchase for anyone with an iphone or ipod touch.
Customer Rating: Summary: Works for the iPhone 3G also! Comment: I emailed Griffin asking if they had something like this for the iphone 3g and they told me they had tested it and it worked perfectly. I ordered it and they were right! It works great. The only issue is it complains that its not iphone compatible but it charges the unit and plays the music thru the audio out perfectly. I also am not detecting any serious cell phone signal issues.
So if you want a fairly compact charger and audio out solution (you must have some sort of audio in on your car stereo, even a cassette adapter will work) then this is perfect. I also use the buttons to pause and change tracks which I thought for sure I would not. Turns out its a lot easier to press the buttons on the charger than on my iphone.
Customer Rating: Summary: Griffin AutoPilot iPod Charger Comment: This product is easy to use. Easy access to the control button. It connected to the iPod "Line" output instead of the head set output. It provide better sound qaulity
