Note:USB2.0 Enclosure only. The Drive is not included!!! Portable design, using USB 2.0 connection to ensure the best performance. Plug & Play with emergency manual eject. This external enclosure is using USB 2.0 and is backward compatible with USB 1.1. Most Pentium II, Pentium III and early Pentium IV laptops and computers have USB 1.1. It can be powered by USB 2.0. Some USB 1.1 ports do not have power and you have to use the keyboard connector to draw power(cable is provided). In most cases you can use both cables to draw enough power to run this drive properly especially when using it to write cdroms or dvdroms. Supported Drivers: DVD+R, DVD+RW, DVD-ROM, DVD-RW, DVD-ROM, CD-R/RW, CD-ROM, it is a good idea to use your laptop slim drive for a Portable rom. System Requirements :Windows 98SE / ME / 2000 / XP/2003 .

Summary: OK Enclosure
Comment: This enclosure is OK, but not great.
The build quality is poor. My drive catches on the top part of the lid, so to eject it, I have to squeeze the sides in order to get the top to pop up over the bezel. The connectors in the back move around as well, so you have to slide them into position in order to insert the drive. It does have screws to retain the drive though, so once you have it in position, you screw it in and it'll stay there.
There is a second cable with a USB connector on one end and a DC plug that fits into the DC jack on the back of the enclosure, to get more power for drives that need it (USB can nominally only deliver 500mW, not enough for most drives). Unfortunately, even using this extra cable, my desktop would not supply enough power to the drive. It worked fine with my laptop though, oddly enough. The DC jack means you could use an external power adapter, if you have one (there's none included).
My main complaint with this enclosure is that I was unable to burn DVDs or CDs with the drive I used (a NEC DVD/CD dual layer burner). Although windows recognized it as a DVD/CD burner, when I put a blank disk it didn't recognize it as blank. There is a driver cd that came with the enclousre, but I didn't try it. I may give it a try later to see if it makes any difference. I would expect it to work out of the box without drivers, however.
If all you need to do is read DVDs/CDs however, it works fine.
