Customer Rating: Summary: Garbage Product and Worse Customer Service Comment: Purchased LaCie product to store my iTunes. Within one week the drive crashed. I called customer support and they refused to help me and honor the warranty. I eventually (year and a half later) reset the entire drive after finding no other option to save or retrieve my files, losing 10,000 songs. I began reloading the library and the system crashed again. LaCie refused to help saying the warranty had expired, but had I purchased one now, they had an extended warranty. Do not mess with LaCie equipment.
Customer Rating: Summary: one great hard drive Comment: This is the best hard drive we have ever used, it is quiet, and very fasy, my next hard drive will be from LaCie. I am a mac user, storing large raw format photos.
Customer Rating: Summary: Overall, pretty good Comment: This La Cie was easy to set up and partition. For the most part, it works great. I've had it about a month and it has made my computer crash only twice. I use it every day. Perhaps someone who has used it for longer is a better judge of its reliability. If anything goes haywire on it, you can be sure that I'll update this review. Hopefully, it'll continue it's good performance.
Customer Rating: Summary: Excellent Drive Comment: I had been using this drive for over a month now as a backup drive on my iMac (using Time machine). It is an excellent drive with no noise and fast speed through Firewire 800 port. This drive is compatible with both mac and PC.
Customer Rating: Summary: Solid drive (excellent except for the software) Comment: The drive is solid, quiet, and attractive enough -- not as nice as the LaCie brick, which I loved until it broke this summer. It runs quietly, and is reliable, but the install was a mess. In the end, I just didn't use the software. The interface is dumbed down and doesn't give you all the install options.
I bought the drive in part for the backup software, which I have not been able to install. The drive has worked well since I reformatted it and used the OSX disk utility to format it correctly. The "exchange" feature is another let down.
