Customer Rating: Summary: Great Picture Storage Device BUT Some Software is Extra$$ Comment: I bought this to carry with my laptop and store my travel pictures on it. All I can say is it is just great. Size, weight and performance all exceeded my expectations. Only issue I had was I needed to reformat the drive from Fat 32 to NTFS. Not a problem and no problems to date. Actually, its a great backup device and I am using it for that now. One concern is the added cost for some of the software that at first appears to be offered for free with the Passport. Other that that, this device is a real pleasure to use
Customer Rating: Summary: Great Product Comment: This has been a great product -- very reliable, well made, and easy to use. It is quite small for a 320 GB storage device, and easily carried. I have had no problems with either of the two passport units I purchased. I also bought a CaseLogic case for them, which fits and protects them very well.
I have not loaded the software that comes loaded on it, which is not needed at all, and I simply use it as an external storage drive for photos and movie clips.
Customer Rating: Summary: drew Comment: Works quickly and quietly. No heat issue. There is some propriatory software that wants to install you each time you plug it in the USB port. That's annoying.
Customer Rating: Summary: One of my best investments Comment: This is an excellent product. I was needing to backup al my Cds collection (over 2500 CDs) an this drive helps me in all. The speed is good, the usability incredible. The only tip that I post for all the future users of this item is "Don't use the soft included in the HDD" Just plug and play the drive and use it with the Windows explorer with copy and paste. Following this tip the use is easy and simple as ABC.
I'm very happy with my new HDD.
Customer Rating: Summary: Overheated Western Digital My Passport Elite 250 Comment: I just purchased the new My Passport Elite from Western Digital. It didn't come with any manual and the installation is confusing. It came installed with some software but you don't need to use them. There is no instruction on how to start using the hard drive. I called the tech support, they are not very helpful. You thought you can just drag and drop the files into the hard drive but no, you can only copy and paste. When I try to drag and drop, the computer blank out.
One major problem I came across is if you leave it sitting with your computer, it can heat up and freeze the computer screen. It happened to me twice in 2 days. In the first day, I thought I installed the software incorrectly and crashed my computer. I tried to do safe boot but didn't find out anything. I let it sit overnight and the next morning when I try to boot again it was fine. Today, it happened again after I let it on and again my computer screen freezed up and the computer refused to boot. I am going to let it sit over night again and I don't get to use the computer for the whole night.
The problem with this device is power through the usb port and if you let it sit, it gets warm and freezes up the computer. I would prefer an external power although this way is more convenient and portable.
I wonder if any one out there experienced the same problem like me.
