Summary: I can't find a downside here.
Comment: I purchased this item as an astronomy pointer after years of frustration trying to point out constellations to my family. On a dark night you really can see the laser beam in the air. It is faint but easily visible, and perfect for a sky pointer.
On a foggy night, it is like having a 30-foot green light saber. I don't know why it goes 30 feet and then cuts off, but that's what it looked like.
On a snowy night, wave it rapidly side-to-side and it cuts swaths of thousands of bright-green snowflakes. Quite a sight.
Yes, you can see the green dot in the daytime, although not the beam.
Finally, I've been shining it for several minutes a day for over a month, and can't complain about the battery usage. Still going on the first set of batteries.
Considering the price, I could not be more pleased. BDC

Summary: Different Laser Than Pictured
Comment: For some reason I received a different, but very similar laser. It is the same color, came in the same box, but the cap can't even be unscrewed! The instructions don't appear to be the same poorly-translated stuff that everyone else got, either. However, one of the main reasons I bought this laser was to open it and mess with the laser itself. Oh well.
It is a very nice product. I don't think I've ever seen a laser as bright as this one, the green REALLY makes a difference. It is amazing at night, too. You can see this thing forever. The night I got it was pretty foggy, and you could see the beam cut through the fog. However, the little clip on the laser broke the first time I tried to actually use it. And before that it would repeatedly fall off. Somehow I think I might have gotten a cheaper model than what was advertised. Although, it is still very nice for the price.

It has been about two weeks since I recieved this laser and wrote a review on it. Since that time, I have discovered a few notable things about this laser.
1. If the lense gets dusty, the laser dot itself will not be as bright, and there will be much more "pixie dust" around the dot. There is a simple solution to this. The little cap on the aperture end of the laser can be removed, allowing you to clean the lense with the included cloth.
2. This laser pointer goes through batteries fairly quick. Within a few minutes of continuous use they are not dead, but do not create peak power with the laser. I recommend rechargable or lithium AAAs.
3. The laser takes about a second after pressing the button to reach full power. It takes even longer when the batteries are low on juice, and does not even get up to full brightness.
4. The laser beam is much brighter when shone towards you. Don't know why, but you have to see it to believe it.
5. If you want to see the beam in a dark room, you should shine it on a dark/black surface. This will absorb the light that would normally bounce off and light up the whole room (seriously, this thing lights up whole rooms), drowning out the brightness of the beam.
I am still very happy with the purchase of my laser, and still can't get over how strong the beam is when the batteries are full. This item is a must-have!

I ordered a Leadlight laser from Microfiber Products off of Amazon, but recieved this instead. A little dissapointed at first, but not anymore. This is a solid-feeling, high quality laser that is very bright. I compared it with my other green laser, which is the type that is smaller, heavier, and factory tuned 5mw. This laser is actually about 2x brighter. Apparently, this laser is higher than 5mw. It comes in a fancy black case with cheap Japanese batteries that wear out quick. On the inside of the black case there are "service instructions" for the laser that are obviously typed by someone who does not know English. I will give it to you verbatim:
SERVICE INSTUCTION:
1. Battery install and replace: as shown in fig.
2. This product. Autodesign temperature control circuit, at continuous
working, movement temperature exceed 50 degree, light dot nature
attenuation, nature comeback working state after turn off cooling.
3. Green laser is the most sensitivity light source for human naked
eye, the harmful is less then red laser 60% upwards for the body,
can using military sights, teaching indicator, lighting
decorating, also can using such light source process malady
therapy.
It would be interesting to find out what those amusing instructions actually translate to. No worries, though, because everything is pretty self-explanatory anyway.
Overall, I am very happy with my purchase and would recommend this to anybody who is at all laser-savvy. May the force be with you!
