Customer Rating: Summary: It's ok... Comment: I was pretty excited about this little guy. Read a lot of good reviews on it and everyone I talked to said it's comparable to the Jawbone. I took the cheap route and went with the Z9i. The sound cancellation does work. I had it on and sat in front of the television with it moderately loud with my brother on the other end listening. On the normal setting he could hear the television clearly. When I switched to the max setting he could barely hear the television. And I was sitting right in front of the speaker. Impressive. The size is also a bonus. There are two gripes that I have. Blueant disables the handset volume control on my Blackberry Curve for some reason. I like being able to adjust the volume on both my phone and headset. My second complaint is the headset does not automatically pair up when I leave the area then come back into range of the headset. My other headsets would do this. I have to hit the MFD button for it to re-pair with my phone with the Z9i. Overall I'd give it 3.5 stars.
Pros:
Size/Weight
Looks
Noise Cancellation
Price vs. Jawbone
Firmware upgradeable
Cons:
Disables the volume control on my Blackberry (when using headset)
Does not automatically re-pair with my Blackberry
Proprietary connector
Customer Rating: Summary: All in all, a really, REALLY nice headset in most every way. Comment: This headset (The BlueAnt Z9i) is the second one I've used. Originally I bough the Motorola H12 Pure. To compare the two would be next to impossible, as they are both definitely top-of-the-line headsets. Though the Z9i actually seems to have a bit more of a snug fit in my ear. As far as sound quality, the Z9i is just as good as the H12. In fact, the reception is sometimes so good and loud that I've been told by friends and family that some of my calls can be heard from across the room; subsequently I've had to turn the volume way down so it doesn't hurt my ear.
The only reason I can think of as to why I gave the Z9i only 4 out of 5 stars is due to the noise cancellation's two settings: standard and max mode(s). I just don't see the point in having two settings. Why not have only one, just maximum? Plus, when on a call and I switch over to max noise cancellation, it automatically goes back to the default standard mode after the call is over and I hang up. As far as I'm concerned--if there must be two settings--once the max. noise cancellation mode is switched on, it should stay this way even after the call is over. In other words, I should be able to choose which mode the headset is set to, and I should only have to do this once, not call after call, after call, etc... Regardless though, keep in mind, both the standard and the max. modes work great and they seamlessly switch from one to another, even if it must be done during every call.
In a nutshell, I'm glad I got the Z9i from BlueAnt. It's quite east to use, weighs virtually nothing, charges quickly, has a long battery life, has great reception and noise cancellation, fits nicely, and sounds just great. It's a good investment, especially for someone like me who uses their cell very often due to the fact that it's their only phone. Plus, as with most any bluetooth headset (with voice-dial), it makes talking while driving SO much safer.
All in all, the BlueAnt Z9i bluetooth headset is a really, REALLY nice headset.BlueAnt Z9i Bluetooth Headset (Black)Black Ultra Slim Hard Shell Bluetooth Carrying Case for BlueAnt Z9 Z9i X3 V1 V12
Customer Rating: Summary: love it, so will you Comment: I've owned my blueant z9i now for about a month and I love it. It works like a champ. People can hear me clearly and I can hear them clear as well. The earpeice is delicate, so if you are one of those people that mistreat their electronics, this may not be for you. Other than that, it's great
Customer Rating: Summary: Way better than the Jawbone for many reasons: Comment: This Bluetooth headset is way better than the Jawbone (1 or 2) for many reasons such as:
-It doesn't require the unit to be touching your jaw bone or cheek at all
-It's a lot easier to put on and take off
-It's more comfortable and doesn't fall off as easily
-It' has two selectable levels of noise cancellation
-It's firmware update-able
-It has wind noise suppression
-It's cheaper yet audio quality both to callers and to you are about the same. Noise cancellation is about equal
-It has a full 2 year warranty
I'm quite happy with the Blue Ant Z9i and definitely recommend it over the Jawbone. This would be the headset to get if you want background noise to be very minimal or non-existent.
My only issue is that BlueAnt only provides the firmware update software to Windows users. This is a stupid move on their part because I'm sure a large portion of purchasers are iPhone users who have Macs. That said, I haven't updated mine and don't intend to since it seems to perform fine as is.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great fit, didnt work with my Blackberry World Edition Comment: I really wanted this to work. Im actually sad I have to return it. The fit is great, its an awesome design, but it the volume kept going higher and lower when I would use it with my Blackberry. I contact support for a firmware update (at the time they didnt have it on their site) so they emailed it to me. Still didnt help.
I bought this because I gave my wife my Plantronics 510 which worked great for my Blackberry, so now ill just have to go buy one for myself. Sorry BlueAnt.
