Customer Rating: Summary: Big Bucks, but still King of the Mountain Comment: I just used this card to replace a BFG 8800GTX OC2 in my gaming system (9650@4GHz, 8GB RAM, etc...). I chose this card due to the memory size and my monitor's native resolution - 1920x1280. I prefer to play my games at full resolution, full screen, with as much detail and anti-aliasing I can get.
What a difference with this new card. I'm mostly playing Age of Conan, and with this new card my frame rates have increased 75%-100+%, in addition to running at a higher level of anti-aliasing. I'm used to incremental gains with a new graphics card, but nothing this extreme. I've also noticed much less heat coming from my system. The top and side panel are an open grill design, and with the 8800 the heat would roil up at me. Tonight after several hours of playing non-stop, the air coming from the case is pretty much room temperature.
This card is expensive, and there are certainly better options from a price/performance standpoint - but if you must have a single card, top of the line performer, this surely is it (at least for the next 3 months!).
Pros:
- single card solution (no need for SLI or Crossfire)
- 1GB Ram ensures it can drive the largest of resolutions
- Blazingly fast graphics without compromsing detail
- Improved heat management
Cons:
- price (not the best price/performance ratio)
- Requires PCI-E 8pin and 6pin power connectors (8800 had two 6pins)
